This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a left-hand-drive Series I example that was delivered to Jaguar Cars in New York on January 16, 1963. Finished in red over a black interior, this fixed-head coupe was acquired by the current owner’s husband 10 years ago and driven about once a month thereafter. Power is provided by a 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The husband of the current owner passed away in 2016, and this XKE is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a clean California title as a 1962 model year car.
The exterior was refinished in red prior to the late owner’s acquisition of this car from a dealer specializing in classics. The original color was Opalescent Dark Blue according to the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. Photos show rust bubbling under the paint near the door bottoms.
Originally dark blue, the interior has been reupholstered in black with matching carpets and door sills.
Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 5-digit odometer showing 63k miles. The center console retains its aluminum trim and features a Blaupunkt AM/FM head unit. The tachometer does not work.
The 3.8-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors. The DOHC cylinder head is stamped R9696-9 which matches the included Jaguar Heritage certificate. The car was last serviced more than three years ago.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate records a manufacture date of January 3, 1963, as well as the original colors and drivetrain numbers.
