Car was at auction 3/09
www.motorbase.com/auctionlot/by-id/781954436/

Auction description:
This particular car is one of the most desirable types of all. An early Series I car with faired-in headlamps, bucket seats and an aluminium dash that could have come straight out of a fighter plane, it is powered by the original 265bhp snarling 3.8-litre straight-six that it was designed for faster and more free-revving than the softer 4.2 that replaced it in late 1964. Supplied new to Jaguar Cars New York in January 1963, it was to remain in America for the next 26 years before returning to the UK in 1989. Owned since then by a Herefordshire garage proprietor, the car has been converted to right-hand drive and fully restored over the last four years. This included a bare metal repaint, re-chromed brightwork, and full interior re-trim. The engine has also been fully rebuilt with new pistons and all the braking and suspension system renewed. Very little used since the work was completed, the car is said to run very well and should have a fresh MOT before the sale, but may need some fine tuning and fettling before being pressed into regular use.

Sold by Winspeed Motorsport Classic Jaguar Specialists of Guildford in July 2021. Seller's description below.

www.winspeedmotorsport.com/availability/for-sale/

A very desirable all alloy interior example, finished in the highly sought after colour scheme of Metallic Grey with Red trim. Matching numbers with correct Moss Gearbox. Substantially restored when imported and converted some thirty years ago and then more recently by the late Tim Waddingham. A most satisfying car driving extremely well, feeling very good on the road, well priced and ready to enjoy.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
