1969 Jaguar E-Type (XKE) Roadster. This is a beautiful classic car. This car you are bidding on was in the cult comedy movie Bottle Rocket - Luke and Owen Wilson's first movie, filmed here in the Dallas area in 1996. In the movie, James Caan plays a notable character named "Mr. Henry" and drives this car. The car is referred to in the movie dialogue as explaining Mr Henry's bona fides.

Contact me and I will email a link to high-resolution photos and answers to any questions. Please note the photos are reflecting the gravel in the driveway on the rocker panels - there is no paint damage there.

I have had the car and driven it 500 miles/year since 1999 (total miles before 1999 unknown). It runs great and is a lot of fun, getting stares, whistles, thumbs-up and questions virtually every time I drive it. These cars are becoming more valuable. NADA average value for this car is $50,350 and high retail is $72,450, but E-Types have sold for over $100,000.

It has the rare factory air conditioning system, but I have never used it. It has a serviceable soft top, but I rarely use it because the car is not driven unless the weather is clear and dry. I drive the car a few miles regularly and I am not aware of any mechanical issues that require attention. The paint is in excellent condition but for a scratch near the deck lid and a chip near the radio antenna. It has YOM license plates that are legal in Texas. I have the original non-eared "spinners."

Notable repairs over the past 12 years other than routine maintenance: clutch master cylinder (2001) and overhaul clutch slave cyliner (2002); reseal transmission (2001); replaced rear brake booster assembly, mufflers, hub bearings, U-joints, reseal differential and replace rear shocks (2010); carb kits, adjusted timing, replaced drive plates and cover gaskets, machined 3 tappets, replaced ignition wires (2011). Complete service records back to 1999. I love these cars and went into thinking it would be a money pit. It has not been. My repair costs have averaged about $500/yr over 12 years. Comprehensive insurance is about $225/yr. Very cheap to own and enjoy this classic piece of rolling artwork.

This 1969 Jaguar XKE is a left-hand-drive, Series II open two-seater that was built in September 1969 and originally distributed through British Leyland of New York. Finished in maroon over grey, the car is powered by a replacement 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six and was driven by James Caan in Wes Anderson’s 1996 film Bottle Rocket. It was acquired by the seller in 2012 and has since been fitted with new leather upholstery and a replacement soft top. A new fuel pump was installed in 2016, and the carburetors were rebuilt in 2018. This XKE is now offered with service records, a tool roll, a clean Oklahoma title in seller’s name.

Originally Willow Green, the exterior has been refinished in maroon. The seller replaced the black soft top, as well as its wood frame, with new pieces from SNG Barratt.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels wear Coker Classic redline tires and are mounted using two-eared knock-off spinners. A set of non-eared, center-locking caps is included. Braking is from discs at all four corners, and a previous owner reportedly replaced the rear brake booster assembly.

The interior was reupholstered with grey leather during the seller’s ownership, and new carpets and door panels were also sourced from SNG Barrett. The seatbelts have been replaced, though the removed items are included in the sale. A CD player was installed in 2013, and an older AM/FM radio is also included. The five-digit odometer shows 8,300 miles, and true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2L inline-six features dual Stromberg Zenith carburetors, which were removed, rebuilt, reinstalled, and tuned in 2018. The seller had a new ignition coil and fuel lines installed in 2013. The fuel pump was replaced in November 2016, and an engine-start video can be seen above.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. In 2010, the previous owner reportedly resealed the differential and replaced the hub bearings, U-joints, and rear shocks. The seller had the exhaust re-welded and new lower manifold gaskets installed in 2013. A tool roll, jack, and knock-off mallet are included in the sale.

The car was subsequently sent to E-Type U.K. Ltd. in Kent, England for work that involved installing LED headlights and an aftermarket exhaust system, adjusting the carburetors, and replacing the front wheel bearings, fuel pump, battery, ignition system, starter, front brake components, and climate control components. Additional equipment includes a replacement black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, and a retro-style push-button radio. This Series II XKE is now offered in Virginia by the seller on behalf of the owner with a black boot cover, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, partial service records from previous ownership, service records for work performed under current ownership, and a clean District of Columbia title.

Finished from the factory in Willow Green, the car was refinished in maroon under prior ownership. The black soft top and wooden support frame were replaced under previous ownership and LED headlights were fitted under current ownership. Additional exterior details include a boot cover, a louvered hood, a left-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual polished exhaust outlets. Work performed under current ownership involved adjusting the windows and fitting a power-operated antenna. Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoffs and mounted with 185-series Blockley tires. A matching spare is mounted in the trunk. Stopping is handled by four-wheel disc brakes. The brake reservoir sensors were replaced under current ownership along with the steering rack bushings, front wheel bearings, and front brake components.

Originally trimmed in Suede Green upholstery, the interior was reupholstered in gray under previous ownership. Appointments include air conditioning, a sliding rearview mirror, lap belts, and a retro-style push-button radio. Work performed under current ownership involved repairing the hand brake warning lights in addition to the map light, door ajar switches, interior light switch, and climate control vents as well as replacing the heater valve, heater box, headlight switches, windshield wiper and washer switches, heater fan switch, and air conditioning components.

The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline. An analog clock and auxiliary gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level and mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 9k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The instrument cluster backlighting was changed to LED, and the oil pressure gauge and the high horn were replaced under current ownership.

The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and finned valve covers. Service during current ownership included changing the fluids, adjusting the carburetors, replacing the battery, starter, valve cover gaskets, coolant hoses, and motor mounts, and installing stainless steel tubular exhaust headers, a battery cutoff switch, an electronic fuel pump and ignition system, an aluminum radiator, and an electronic cooling fan. Compression test results can be viewed in the gallery below.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. An aftermarket exhaust system has been installed.

A reproduction identification plate has been affixed in the engine compartment and displays chassis number 1R10581, which is listed on the District of Columbia title.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists factory colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
