Car offered at:

Seller's description:

41,376 miles

manual gearbox

RHD

Opalescent Dark Green Suade Green

VIN 1E 20262

Lot #21614

private Sale Ashford, Kent, United Kingdom

This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe is an all-green example of the classic British sports car, benefiting from a recent engine rebuild and rear subframe rebuild.

Under the bonnet is a 4.2-litre straight-six, producing around 265hp which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

This example is noted to have been purchased by the seller some 34 years ago from Eagle Racing Ltd. At time of purchase the speedometer was reading 30k miles and during his ownership the car has benefitted from a bare-metal repaint, an engine rebuild, and gearbox reconditioning. It is now reported to present very well, as a reliable and usable example.

The odometer displays 41,376 miles, and the seller notes that it is in regular use.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

It is now finished in Opalescent Dark Green over a green leather-trimmed interior with a black dashboard, toggle switches, Smiths dials, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel.

It rides on a set of 15-inch chrome wire wheels with twin-eared knock-off spinners, wrapped in Blockley 185 VR15 tyres.

This example is fitted with a Coolcat cooling fan and a Webasto canvas roof.

The vehicle will comes with the original Jaguar handbook, a Jaguar parts catalogue, Jaguar Heritage Certificate, and a vast collection of maintenance invoices.

CONDITION

Specific notes from the seller include: there are some light scratches on the exterior.

The seller is not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults. However, the period radio only works on an auxiliary jack plug connection.

The vehicle is understood to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.

Its last test was on 6 August 2018 at 38,917 miles, which the car failed due to corrosion around the nearside rear suspension mounting area, and with some advisories for an insecure battery, worn suspension bushes, and for the steering and exhaust. All of these issues were subsequently addressed over the course of 2018-2019.

SERVICE HISTORY

The latest service was carried out during K Croucher (Forge Garage) in March 2021. The work comprised of an engine rebuild with new piston rings, big end and main bearings and new oil seals and gaskets, as well as re-grinding in the valves, fitting new valve stem oil seals, shimming the valve clearances to Jaguar specifications, stripping down and rebuilding the carburettors and then tuning the engine. The starter motor was removed and reconditioned at this time.

Subsequent to this visit, the rear differential was overhauled, the rear subframe was rebuilt with new seals, bearings and bushes, and the car also received new brake discs, pads and callipers with the Rob Beere Racing Easy Bleed Kit.

The seller notes that during their ownership the seats have been retrimmed and re-foamed, the bumpers have been re-chromed, the clutch replaced, the radiator re-cored, the gearbox reconditioned, and the car stripped down to bare metal, wax oiled and repainted in its original Opalescent Dark Green hue.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
