Original engine block, body and chassis
This is just 1 of 1,583 right-hand drive E-Type Series 1 4.2 Fixed Head Coupes made before the introduction of the so-called Series 1.5 cars. Much work has been carried out on the project as is evident from the gleaming iconic bodywork and machinery. Built on 5th February 1965, Chassis No. 1E20258, left the Browns Lane factory with Engine No. 7E2701-9 and a manual transmission. The car was sold by E.W. Hatfield of Sheffield to a Mr Griffin Davis and displayed the registration mark 'FWB 22C'. It now wears the plate 'DXJ 444C'. In the current ownership of the vendor for the last 21 years, the project began as a complete car.
Described by the vendor as being approximately 85% complete, it is believed that the car, at the minimum, retains the original engine block, body and chassis. During the project it has been given a 'big valve' head from a Jaguar Series 3 XJ, in addition, it has been bestowed with triple Weber 45 carburettors with linkages. A sports manifold completes the package. Amongst the items that are not present are the starter, alternator or steering column, however, a new steering rack is present. The body panels wear a Gunmetal-like Metallic (believed to be a Mercedes colour). The interior still requires refurbishment/repair with the original plan being to have the finished car with a Red interior using the set of Red upholstered seats with the car. It is useful to see the car accompanied by the important Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and a V5C.
