It is now 2014 and rather than sell the car back in 2006, I committed it to a complete nut & bolt restoration, using the original nuts & bolts. This car is now truly magnificent with only two changes from original: Bumpers have been switched from US spec overriders to Euro spec chrome and Color has been changed to jet black with tan interior. It's been seven years in the making and s/b completed August 2014. Photos forthcoming.

    Auction description:

    NEWPORT BEACH 2017

1974 Jaguar XKE E-Type SIII Roadster

    Consignment # 9101

Vehicle to be offered for sale June 2-4th, 2016 at Russo and Steele's 5th Annual Newport Beach California Auction.

This Jaguar Heritage certified, E-Type, V-12 Roadster, chassis UE 1S 24973, was manufactured on 20 February 1974 and includes the sought-after 4-speed manual transmission, chrome wire wheels and air conditioning.

In March of this year, the car completed a 150k+, professional restoration, wherein the car was completely disassembled, the body stripped bare, all body work completed without filler and the car reassembled using as many of the original parts as possible. The engine was completely rebuilt and the interior reconstructed using the original seat frames and hardware, new foam and covered in new, correct, biscuit, hides. A modern sound system, including four high-end speakers is hidden in the parcel shelf and is operated from your mobile phone via Bluetooth. This car is totally correct with the original driveline, body & chassis with only three changes made the color has been changed from sable to Jaguar-correct black, the bumpers have been changed from US spec to Euro spec and the soft top has been changed from the original vinyl to canvas. The result is nothing short of stunning.

The engine and body work is photo-documented and was performed by SoCal Jaguar Specialist, Bill Armstrong. The interior work was performed by interior specialist Car Classic Interiors of Van Nuys, CA and final assembly and testing was performed by Steve's Jaguar Service of Canoga Park, CA.

The Seller purchased this car from a retired Navy officer in San Diego in December, 2000 55,400 miles. Previous ownership is unknown. The car has always been garaged and well maintained and was driven regularly until restoring it at 72,000 miles. The car has completed roughly 1000 miles since it's return in March and is running as new.

This 1974 Jaguar XKE is a black-over-tan roadster that was built on February 20, 1974, and underwent a multi-year refurbishment prior to being acquired by the current owner in June 2021. Power is provided by a numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, air conditioning, a push-button Blaupunkt radio, quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15” chrome wire wheels. This Series III E-Type roadster is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records, a tool kit, a floor jack, and a clean Illinois title.

The car left the factory finished in Sable (259) and was repainted under previous ownership as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Equipment includes a replacement black soft top, a louvered hood, chrome bumpers with overriders, and quad central exhaust outlets. Work performed in preparation for the sale included body and paint repairs to the front end, left door, and trunk lid.

Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels with knock-off hubs wear 205/70 Michelin Defender tires. The car is equipped with front and rear independent suspension, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.

The cabin features bucket seats that have been reupholstered in Biscuit leather as well as matching door panels and carpets. Equipment includes air conditioning, a push-button Blaupunkt radio, a lockable glovebox, a center console with an armrest, and a carpeted rear parcel shelf.

The three-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and center-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 75k miles, though total mileage is unknown.

The numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates the factory color scheme, serial numbers, and delivery to New York in March 1974.
