Wearing its factory yellow paint and original black leather interior, this English sport classic is equipped with a 5.2L V-12 engine. Race-inspired design, sophisticated monocoque construction, famously competent independent suspension and disc brakes converge with what was an amazing and significant sports car in the history of Jaguar. The V-12 engine is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission, and while the Series III may have added girth over its svelte predecessors, the Jaguar is comparatively light by contemporary standards at 3,400 pounds. With V-12 power under the long hood, the U.S.-market Series 3 E-type boasted 135 MPH top speed. The Jaguar wears its factory-prepared color combination, and lowering the original top sheds light onto the Coventry-issue black leather interior with perforated sport bucket seats around a center console over black carpet. The leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel sits on an adjustable steering column for a personalized view of Smiths instrumentation and the road ahead. Original-equipment AM/FM radio and air conditioning add a measure of entertainment and four-season cabin comfort. The V-12-powered E-type rides on genuine chrome knock-off wire wheels equipped with original size and tread-pattern reproduction Dunlop tires for traditional style and an authentic Jaguar driving experience. The E-Type is one of the few cars that truly deserves icon status--it's Jaguar's signature vehicle.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
