This 1969 Jaguar XKE 2+2 was sold new at Fletcher's Chevrolet of Encino, California in January 1970 equipped with an automatic transmission, power steering, and air conditioning. The first owners lived in Woodland Hills, California and used the car for local shopping runs and the occasional weekend drive up to Santa Barbara. They kept the car garaged when not in use and maintained it regularly. According to the executor of their estate, the wife had the car started from time to time by a local garage owner after her husband passed away in the late 2000s. After her death, the car was purchased by the seller from the estate in 2008. In the years since, he has addressed the mechanical needs of the 4.2-liter inline-six, refurbished the interior, repainted the body, refreshed the brakes and suspension, and installed a new exhaust system, all of which is documented on his blog. With two other Rolls Royce projects in the garage, the seller has decided to sell this XKE. It is now being offered with the original window sticker, manuals, bill of sale, numerous service records, and a clean California title in the seller's name.

Front bumper guards and 15″ wire wheels were popular options and added $32 and $132 to the price respectively. New 6" wide wheels have been added, though the original 5" units are included in the sale. Some of the chrome trim pieces were replaced where needed, a new front windshield was installed, and the exterior rubber seals were replaced. Note the California blue plate mounted out back.

Inside, the front seats were recovered with new black leather upholstery, a new headliner was installed, and the seller refinished the original wooden steering wheel. The original Philips AM/FM radio remains in place and was a $195 option, while the factory R12 air conditioning system cost an extra $482. Smiths gauges are said to function, and the odometer shows 37,703 miles.

The seller had the dual Stromberg carburetors rebuilt by sucarbs.com in Colorado, and outsourced the balancing of the driveshaft. All of the other mechanical work completed during the refurbishment was performed by the seller, who either rebuilt, refinished, or replaced many of the engine components as documented on his blog. Some of the work included the following:

Installed new stainless steel exhaust system (original pattern)
Replaced U-joints
Replaced thermostat
Replaced all engine hoses and belts
Replaced fluids
Installed new ethanol resistant fuel pump
Replaced fuel sump filter and seal
Installed gear reduction starter
Rebuilt brake calipers
Replaced brake rotors, pads, and brake lines
Installed new brake master cylinder
Installed new brake vacuum unit with servo cylinder
Installed new shocks and springs
Replaced ball joints and various suspension bushings
Rebuilt power steering rack with new seals and boots

The original window sticker, bill of sale, owner's manuals, spare, toolkit, period literature and a British Leyland mylar window sticker are included along with the original California license plates and years of registration documents. Service records from previous and current ownership also come with the car.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
