Sellers comment:
Vehicle Description
Rescued from a chicken coop in Mill Valley, California in 1986 and trucked to Seattle. 98% restored by 1990. Driven for 2 years on weekends, then mostly garaged for the next 6 years. The car was "too uncomfortable" for the previous owner. "Test" driven by me for 2 years, then purchased by me in 2000. I didn't seriously invest money into the car until I owned it, just made it run. Didn't take much, as it was at least started monthly while garaged. Over the next four years, it has: New rubber 2 years ago, all splines and hubs lubed. Reworked the cooling (now with 4.2L header tank), charging (still a generator) and ignition systems (now Pertronix powered). New mufflers. New fuel pump. Carbs cleaned rejetted and tuned, but they need to be rebuilt. Engine # is RA3087-9.

Vehicle Condition
Car runs and drives perfectly. Garaged and maintained. Last fall my wife and I drove it from Seattle to LA and back via 101 and PCH on honeymoon. Fuel pump complained on the way home, has since been replaced. Voltage regulator went out in Monterey. Otherwise a flawless trip. Except for the rain and getting sick on the way home..... There are blisters on the paint at bonnet vents from exhaust maifolds. I have not noticed further blistering since the carbs were richened up and cooling system addressed. The lacquer on the bonnet in about a one square foot area and on boot lid is cracking some with age. Minor chips at air scoop. Otherwise the paint is beautiful. The passenger side door skin has been replaced and repainted since being bumped into 2 years ago. Now only one small ding in the passenger door (the day after it was painted!!) Chrome is excellent except for a rust spot on the rear bumper and small rust areas on a couple of the wheels, otherwise no other rust on the vehicle. Some minor scuffing marks can be seen at the driver's floor mat and door threshold leather. There are some replacement screws in the hinge areas of the convertible top that probably aren't original, but they work. The windows should be adjusted to fit tighter to the top. I rarely have it up anyway. No fun in the rain. Wipers and heater don't work, not sure why. Never researched them. Washer fluid reservoir and pump is missing.

Sold on ebay for $25,000. I am sure you will see some new photos of restoration on this one.

This car is well in its way to a high-level-driver restoration as of April 2006. Engine is revuild (CJ), Carbs rebuild (Curto), 5-Speed is installed (CJ), cooling system upgraded (R Davis), engine bay, bonnet, and vairous painted (D Ferguson - Images), Chrome redone (Sherms - Sacramento), and virtually anything that could be replates has been (Tech plate - So Cal). All dis-assembly and re-assembly has been done by me. I'm a few parts and fluids away from the first start up. By the way, the previous owner advertised this car as an outstanding driver - it actually did drive, but the pistons we 30 over in 28 over cylinders, the thrust bearings were thrown twisted bits in the oil pan, and virually every bit that could be kludged was - so it didn't run for long! No worries - it'll soon be better than new.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
