Bonhams and Brook auction, Beaulieu, England lot #650, 9/9/2001. Sports Car Market report:

Restored in 1985. Fair repaint with blisters in hood and mismatched shade of white on trunk lid. Good interior. Fair door and hood fit, some pitting in chrome. Outfitted with lightweight hood, standard hood included in sale. Kind of an oinker.

Failed MOT in 2003 'cos leaking rear brake caliper. Removal of rear subframe for brake overhaul revealed severe rust around radius arm plates (one completely disintegrated) and in rear box section. Body tub completely restored late 2004 by Colin Ford, resprayed original 1963 OEW (cream), most parts refurbed (eg sand blasted and replated/powder coated) before refitting, Getrag 5speed box, and now back on road.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
