Bought this car from the original owners family. Only 23900 miles on the car. It sat for almost 30 years. Purchased by original owner in England and toured Europe with it then brought it home to Pittsburgh, Pa. The car looks like it may be an early 1969 but not titled in the USA until 1970. We are a dealer and will be selling the car. Dan

Sellers description:
Listed for sale by Coventry Garage LLC, is a 1970 JAGUAR E-TYPE ROADSTER that is in wonderful condition. We are offering it for sale at $34,500.00. We bought this car from the family of the original owner. The car has only 24907 miles on the working odometer. This car was stored for 20 to 25 years in dry, air conditioned storage. This car is a great platform for a restoration project, ALTHOUGH, WITH VERY LITTLE WORK IT COULD BE AN EVERY DAY DRIVER. This car starts right up, runs well and we have driven it around 20 miles. This car is a 4 speed manual roadster with original engine/original drive train and is a matching numbers car with very little rust.

This car has all of its factory original components: consisting of a 4 speed manual transmission and 2 carburetor 6 cylinder in line Jaguar 4.2 liter engine. It has a Sable brown exterior with a cinnamon tan colored interior and black vinyl top. The car shows only 24907 miles on the working odometer. This car runs great, starts quickly and shifts nicely. This car is a very original car- the paint shows very well, the chrome looks good and the trunk and engine compartments are very presentable as is. The interior is original: the seats are in decent condition but some seams have opened; the carpeting and convertible top are original and could be restored/re-stitched (although a brand new black vinyl convertible top comes with the car). The gray/silver painted wire wheels, engine compartment, trunk area and jacking tools are in excellent condition for their age. The car is very presentable as it sits and with a little work, could be a very nice daily "driver" condition car. The car has 4 brand new tires. The car may have been repainted in the original color sometime in the mid 1970's.

The Car# on this car is 1R8619; the Body # is 4R 2741; the engine # is 7R 2450-8; the transmission # is KE 3887. This car is a left hand drive car AND WAS BUILT IN February 1969 although titled in the USA in 1970.

We have just changed the engine oil and oil filter, installed the new tires, installed a new clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder and drained the gas tank and added fresh gasoline, a new fuel pump, new spark plugs and plug wires. The car runs, shifts nicely and brakes nicely. We found this car being stored in a garage in Export, Pa. by the son of the original owner. The original owner bought the car overseas and toured Europe with it prior to bringing it back to the states. There is VERY LITTLE RUST under this car; the floors, sills, door bottoms, trunk, front bonnet, and rear suspension mounts are all in nice shape. The spare tire, jack and jacking tools are still with the car and will go to the new owners. All of the lights work, all of the gauges work, the horns work and all of the chrome shines nicely. This car has no radio. The original leather seats and the original vinyl top need some re-stitching or replacement. The carpets should be replaced. The interior door panels and vinyl hardura panels are in nice condition. The engine compartment and trunk area are very clean and original. A new black vinyl convertible top comes with the car. THIS CAR HAS NOT YET REACHED 25,000 MILES ON THE WORKING ODOMETER. THIS CAR HAS BEEN OWNED BY ONE FAMILY SINCE NEW. IT WAS STORED IN A BASEMENT HEATED GARAGE FOR APPROX. 25 YEARS.

The only rust on this car is in the following three areas: behind the driver's side rear wheel arch but NOT rusted through; under the passenger side headlight where it sustained some minor damage years ago, NOT rusted through; and there is a small square hole under the passenger rear floor board where it looks like someone cut the metal out (about 2" X 3" hole before the rear bulkhead and to the right of the large radius arm mount). SEE PHOTOS OF THESE AREAS.

The previous owner and his son owned this car for 42 years- since it was new! The son sold it to us after his father passed away. All the glass and chrome are in nice original condition. We do have more photos of the floors from underneath the car and can send them to you. The floors are in nice condition especially at the large radius arm connections and the front foot areas where rust usually forms. There are no signs that these floors, sills or trunk/boot area were ever worked on as they are in very nice condition and you can see the original red primer on most metal areas. The floors and rear spare tire well are in excellent shape. There are no holes in the trunk area. The gas tank does not leak and we just cleaned out the gas tank and installed a new fuel pump. The car does leak some motor oil as all older British cars tend to do but the engine does not smoke or overheat at all. The car was involved in some sort of minor front end altercation when something flew up and hit the bonnet on the right front near the passenger side headlight. The previous owner's son remembers that the accident happened in Europe and that they had it repaired after returning to the United States in the early to mid 1970's. It looks minor and no damage can be felt inside the front "mouth" but you can see that some putty was used in the repair and is now cracking on the front right outside of the bonnet. The bonnet looks perfect from the engine side. The wheels are painted wire wheels and are original to the car- not chrome wire wheels. The convertible top has two splits along the seams but a brand new black vinyl top goes with the car. The driver's seat also has split seams in the leather.

We have tried to describe this car as accurately as possible; all the good and bad features have been addressed in this advertisement. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT this car is now 42 years old. Please do not ask us if the car can be driven home to Florida or Arizona. Remember that all of the electrics were made by Lucas and are original to the car; all of the suspension is original and most of the radiator hoses are original too.

Car to be at auction 11/15

Auction description:
NEC Classic Motor Show Sale
Lot 348
Registration: RHR 98
Chassis Number: IR 8619
Engine Number: 7R 2459-9
Number of cylinders: 6
CC: 4200
Year of Manufacture: 1969
Estimate (£): 60,000 - 75,000
Chassis number 1R 8619 was manufactured on 26th February 1969 and was delivered new to the Belgium Motor Company in Bruxelles on 12th March 1969, and shortly afterwards was happily collected by its first owner, a Mr William Rutherford. This series II E-Type Roadster 4.2 then found its way to the United States, where it was recently discovered by our vendor in a tired but original condition. He repatriated the car to the UK and set about an extensive restoration that has only recently been completed.

The body was stripped and painted in stunning Signal Red and the interior has been trimmed in BAS tan leather with red piping. A new stainless steel exhaust manifold was fitted along with new chromium wire wheels. The steering was converted from left to right-hand drive and the engine was removed and received a bottom end rebuild, as the car had been stood for some time. The car was then re-assembled with great care and attention to detail. The odometer is currently reading 24,949 miles and although unwarranted, the vendor believes this low mileage to be correct.

All relevant documentation can be found in the history file and the car is reported to drive extremely well. A Jaguar Heritage certificate confirms that the chassis and engine numbers match from new and the car has covered just 110 miles since its restoration. This E-Type really is in fantastic sparkling condition, and one would be tempted to arrive at a classic car show, open the bonnet, boot and both doors and stand back and enjoy the compliments.

A superb opportunity to own an original E-Type Roadster and enjoy many years of 'roof down fun' along the way.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
