Car sold at 2004 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction for $38,340. Description:

"Jaguar's racing experience taught them much about aerodynamics, independent suspension, reliable powerful twin cam engines and better braking and handling. When the first XKE's were introduced in 1961, the buying public was treated to the finest production sports cars ever offered. The fabulous styling was just frosting on the cake. This 1969 XKE Roadster features a 4.2 liter twin cam 6, 4-wheel disc brakes, 4-speed fully synchro transmission and independent suspension. Radio/cassette player. This car was way ahead of it's time, including 140+ miles per hour top speed ! This is an authentic, low mileage, mostly original car."

Sports Car Market magazine assessment at 1/04 BJ Auction "...Odo 50,196 miles. Older mediocre repaint showing age, cracks on driver's door, overspray on interior door panels. Door gaskets deteriorated. Dash nice and looks original, seat leather worn to nice patina...Cond: 3..... Strong price ($38,340) considering overall condition and lack of documentation of anything"

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
