Although it has become customary to call 1968 E-Types "Series 1.5" the official Jaguar position is that the 1968 is a Series 1 car and Series 2 began in 1969.

This is true, however for the prevention of confusion S1.5 has been adopted by JCNA and indeed most of the world. There are '68 cars that are not S1.5 cars, a true S1.5 was built for the North American market, the rest of the world did not get all of the features in '68 that North America got.
