Ebay item 4/30/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-1968-JAGUAR-XKE-2-2-E-TYPE-48k-MILES-NICE- ...
Opening bid $1,968, no reserve, no bids yet, 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
It kills me to sell this car. I've spent alot of time on it and it's almost there. Sold to the highest bidder is this 1968 XKE. Series 1.5. 2+2 Automatic with Air Conditioning. 48200 original miles. Car Number 1E78831BW (matches Florida title), Engine 7E55156-9, Body 4E55135, Automatic Trans 23863. VIN tag rivets loose from cowl. Casting #'s from block C28807FF, Head #EE477. Originally light blue metallic, dark blue interior. This is an early Series 1.5. with early style lights/bumpers and low back seats. Non-covered lights, rocker switches and 2 carbs. It took me years to find the right original car with VERY LITTLE rust for restoration. Car has spent 90% of it's life in Florida and it shows. Car had been sitting 20+ years prior to me getting it and is 99% complete. I wanted to make it a driver first. I rebuilt both carbs, jumped ignition switch (didn't work) and ran engine from gas can 2 years ago. Engine sounded good. No exhaust. Sounded like 48k miles with no chatter. I had gas tank relined, installed an electric fuel pump. Plumbed all new fuel lines. Had radiator boiled. Went through entire ignition system. Jaguar plugs, cap, points, condenser, rotor and wires. Replaced all original belts. Replaced all hoses including heater hoses expect lower 2 piece radiator hose. All still had the original clamps attached. I replaced all brake lines. Removed rear end, rebuilt calipers and replaced rotors. Rebuilt front calipers and master cylinders. Still needs brake reservoirs and bled out. I never got to drive the car. Radiator and gas tank still empty. Drive shaft still unbolted. I sent the car to body shop for some minor body work. I intended to finish after car was a driver. 2 years later the car is finally ready from body shop???? Body as close to rust free as I could find for a unrestored project. I had them replace lower belly pan because of a large dent and numerous rust holes. Took 2 years to find an original used one in good condition. Replaced battery tray(Welsh) and drivers lower rocker forward of cowl. Battery had leaked which corroded rocker panel below. No real rust ever in rockers which is very rare for these cars. Minor pinholes. Had some light rust on inner rocker near floor edge on drivers side repaired. Drivers door had some typical rust at bottom edge. Passenger looked fine. Trunk floor looks clean and original but has some pinholes and minor rust. Lower rear pan looks good although also has typical pinholes. Car has some minor, original rust. Very challenging to find one this rust-free unrestored. Some original rust in rear inner wheel wells but not half as bad as most projects. Bonnet wheel wells are excellent. Floors are amazingly rust free and original. I had car sanded and primed but still needs finished. Interior is typical hot climate car but complete. Dried out, cracked and dusty. Needs dash pad, carpet and seats redone. Seats not bolted in. No headliner. Door panels and side panels usable for a driver. Interior parts are very easy to find. Windshield cracked. Have new seal and back glass. Chrome is driver quality at best. Original redlines dry rotted but hold air. 5 wire wheels are driver quality but straight. Rear bumpers rough. Missing chrome trims for top of bonnet and a few lenses. Includes the ac condenser, air cleaner and everything pictured. Clear Florida title. Mileage exempt in FL. but stand by 48k original miles given its state of preservation.

BOTTOM LINE.

THIS CAR COULD BE DRIVING IN A WEEKEND WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE AND LITTLE MONEY. THE ENGINE IS FREE AND WILL RUN WITH LITTLE EFFORT. BODY IS REMARKABLY RUST FREE AND ORIGINAL.Here is a chance to own a Series 1.5 XKE 2+2 for not a lot of money. It needs some work to get it running, but the originality will save thousands in the restoration process. It's a great entry level Jaguar Sports car for around 1/2 the price of a coupe and 1/3 the price of a roadster!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
