Car offered at:
www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1966-jaguar-e-type-series-1-42-22-automatic-lhd-g ...
Seller's description:
1966 Jaguar E-Type
Odometer 75,955 Miles
Engine size 4235
Seller Type Private
Town Villajoyosa
Country Spain
Factory correct colour scheme
Very well preserved car with characterful patina
Extensive history and long term owner
Jaguar Heritage Certificate
Well cared for mostly in warm climates
Extensive mechanical upgrades
Spanish Historic registered vehicle
History and Paperwork
Based in Spain with Spanish Historic registration
Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms authenticity of current specification
This also appears to confirm the car is a matching numbers example
Certificate shows the car was built in early June 1966 and despatched to Salt Lake City
One of only 2,643 LHD 2+2s built
Extensive history file includes subsequent Certificates of Title from time in USA
Car returned to the UK from USA and then travelled with its owner to Spain
Photographs show the car wearing the UK registration TGU311E
Spanish importation documents included
Factory owners manual
Old ITV certificates from early to mid ‘10s
Lots of older invoices from specialist parts suppliers
We are told the car is an older restoration
Has spent much of its life in warm, sunny climates in the USA and Spain
Considerable mechanical improvements, including:
New water pump
Extra cooling fans
Upgraded brakes
Rebuilt carburettors
Upgraded high performance starter motor
Rear axle overhauled
New brakes and brake pipes
The Condition
Desirable Series 1 car with classic features including fared in front lights and small rear lights
Gorgeous Opalescent Golden Sand paintwork an older, high quality restoration
We are told that this finish contains a lacquer finish that retains the paint’s shine
Bodywork in very good order showing good panel fit, particularly across doors
Chromework reconditioned and refitted across exterior
New wire wheels with similarly recent tyres with whitewall trim
Matching spare wheel with wheel removal tools in good order
Factory correct short exhaust system
Standard car, the only variation being a wing mirror added to driver’s side
Tinted Sundym glass fitted
Well presented car but with some door rubbers showing typical light deterioration
Interior is well kept indicating older restoration that has been well kept
Some signs of wear across seats, centre console and dash roll
Additional auxiliary gauges fitted under dash including hazard warning switch likely factory correct
Starter button has red finish to edges
Headlining appears to be original and is lightly marked and sagging slightly
Rear load area very well kept with good, complete trim
Period Motorola radio fitted
Three spoke later E-Type wood-rimmed steering wheel
This very pretty Spanish registered Series 1 car is a testament to its long term owner who has clearly maintained the attractive Opalescent Golden Sand bodywork to a high standard. This appears to be an older restoration, the quality of which work is evident across the paintwork and panel fit. We are told that the brightwork has been rechromed and the chrome wire wheels are new, as are the whitewall tyres.
Inside the condition is very presentable and lightly patinated but not unsightly to any degree. It is highly factory correct including the later, more comfortable E-Type Series 1 seats, wood-rimmed wheel and even the Motorola radio.
The Mechanics
4,235cc XK straight six Jaguar engine developing around 245bhp
Triple SU carburettors
Three speed automatic gearbox
We are told that this is a matching numbers car verified by Heritage Certificate
Extensive mechanical work front to back of car and documented above
Sparing use by seller and we have no reports of mechanical issues with the car
Switching to the 4.2litre XK engine added even more power to satiate American buyers. It works well with the relaxed 3spd automatic gearbox fitted to this car.
It has received considerable ongoing mechanical work that has not been restricted to mere maintenance through its life in Spain and earlier. A long list of improvements is documented above and includes uprated starter motor, improved brakes, rebuilt carburettors and extra cooling fans. A thick history file of parts purchases attests to the care expended on this lovely car.
