on Auction at Brightwells (Wed 23rd Oct):
www.brightwells.com/timed-sale/5533/lot/740211%2ftimed-sale%2f5533%3fpageSize%3dAll
Description:
Just four owners from new, the first for 46 years, the current for 11 years; recent sympathetic refurbishment; lovely original red leather trim; matching numbers; automatic gearbox; a genuine old E-Type with bags of character and a current MOT
Supplied new by Botwoods of Norwich in September 1966, this Series One E-Type 2+2 Automatic had just one local owner from new until 2012. The original service book has four stamps up to 14,719 miles in January 1968, the first three by the supplying dealer and the last by Mann Egerton who had just taken over Botwoods’ premises at 31 King Street.
There are various invoices for routine maintenance from 2005 – 2013 including a brake system overhaul; new brass header tank; Kenlowe fan; ball joints; general service items plus small jobs required at MOT time etc.
In May 2013 it went to Jaggard Brothers of Ely where it received some localised welding repairs; removal of the rear axle to overhaul the brakes; new steering column bushes; wire wheels refurbished; work to the electrics; service items etc, the mileage at this point being 30,598.
Our vendor, who is the fourth owner, acquired the E-Type in October 2013 from Triumph specialists TRGB of Huntingdon who were selling it on behalf of a customer. Over the last few years he has spent a fair bit on the car including: full respray; new exhaust downpipes; new engine mountings; starter motor reconditioned; full service; new cloth headlining; new door rubbers; new set of carpets etc.
Although it no longer needs one, he also got the car through an MOT in July this year which it passed with just a few minor advisories (slight play in steering; slight play in o/s/f lower ball joint; front brake application slightly uneven). An online check of the MOT history shows that the car has only covered some 2,000 miles since 2005, the odometer currently showing 32,177 miles although there is insufficient early history to warrant this figure.
The vendor advises that the sun visors will need refitting, the passenger door lock needs attention, the cover for the rear hatch lock needs refitting and the spare wheel needs a missing spoke replacing.
Appearing to be generally straight, sound and presentable, with good panel fit, pleasingly original red leather upholstery and retaining its original engine and gearbox, this looks like a very genuine old E-Type with bags of character. Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site, it is on offer here at a sensible guide price and could be smartened up over time as desired.
