Car was sold at Amelia Island, Florida auction 3/05.
www.rmauctions.com/events/auctionresults.cfm
Sales price $53.9k

Auction description:
The Series I 4.2 Liter Roadster presented here is 78,000 mile example, which is correct from new, that has been well maintained by its current enthusiast owner. Originally painted blue, the Jaguar was refinished in red with a black leather interior and it shows very nicely while displaying signs of an older restoration and some road use. The current owner related that he had actually owned the car for several years in the 1970s and then purchased the E-Type back in the early 1980s.

The interior and engine bay both appear tidy, while the underbody displays evidence of road use. As the vendor wanted a reliable driver, he opted to increase the radiator size to better handle and overcome the E-Type’s common cooling problem and accordingly, the Jaguar does not overheat and is a stress-free driver regardless of the traffic conditions. Fitted with
a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio this open roof grand British tourer is a great weekend car for the
motoring enthusiast.

SCM 3/12/05 auction report: Fist-sized dent lower portion of nose, lots of rock chips directly above. Chrome good, in some places excellent. Cloth top has half-inch tear, vinyl trim coming apart. Underhood clean but not detailed. Interior has extensive wear.

I purchased this car from VIP Classics in Dan Diego, California for $58,500 in January 2006 and had it shipped back to the UK some 3 months later. The car was actually made in Dcember 1966, but was registered as a 1967 car by the time it arrived in Canada. I know that it spent a good many years in Canada and although I bought it from California (and it had been auctioned in Florida the previous year in 2005), it was still wearing an Ontario Jaguar Owners Club badge. I was told - but cannot verify - that it was totally restored over 5 years in the mid 1990's. The original color was opalescent silver blue, but it has been repainted in bright red. The restoration is very thorough and well done. It has an original radio (Blaupunkt Frankfurt). I was told that the person who restored it had owned it several years earlier and had bought it back and restored it - but this cannot be verified.Overall it is in very good condition, but has a few stone chips and very minor dings. I also own an ex Californian E-type Coupe, Series 1 FHC which is totally original.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
