On eBay, January 2003. Ad reads:

1973 JAGUAR V12 COUPE, 2+2, AUTOMATIC, THIS IS A LOCAL ANAHEIM CALIFORNIA CAR, IT HAS VERY LOW MILES FOR A CAR OF THIS AGE, 66,534, IT HAS BEEN IN DRY STORAGE FOR 20 YEARS, IT STILL SPORTS MOST OF ITS ORIGINAL PAINT, AND ORIGINAL LEATHER SEATS, THE REAR DECK IS VERY NICE, AS IS THE DASH, AND INSTRUMENTS, IT IS RUST FREE EXCEPT FOR WHERE SOME WATER WAS TRAPPED IN ONE SIDE OF THE SPARE WHEEL WELL, AND SOME CRACKING ON THE PAINT ON THE REAR FENDERS, REALLY NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT, THE DOORS FIT LOVELY, AND JUSTIFY THE LOW MILES, NO ACCIDENT HISTORY IS EVIDENT, THIS IS A TIME WARP OLD GIRL THAT NEEDS FULL RESTORATION, IT DESERVES TO BE RESTORED BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION, IT WILL MAKE AN EXCELLENT ROAD CAR, AND BE TWICE AS COLLECTIBLE INTO THE BARGAIN, IT IS QUITE HARD TO FIND A GOOD RUST FREE E TYPE, THIS IS NOT AN OUT OF STATE RUST BUCKET, BUT A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF A CALIFORNIA CAR.

LOT: 227
Estimate:
$115,000-$145,000 US
Chassis No. UD1S74185
AUCTION RESULTS: Lot was Sold at a price of $93,500
This example is the first and only Beacham E-Type in North America, and the newest of only four made to date. Handbuilt by master craftsmen, the fit and finish are truly impressive. Finished in stunning Ferrari Pozzi blue, with navy top and carpets, the supple light tan leather trim affects an elegant complement. Performance is scintillating with its lightweight quad-cam Jaguar 4.0 litre supercharged V8 producing 370hp, mated to the XKR five-speed J-Gate automatic transmission. Modern suspension and braking complete the mechanical picture. The sumptuous cabin is equipped with the latest comfort and safety features including full climate control, numerous power accessories, GPS navigation and SRS (airbags). Utilizing all Jaguar components, the Beacham E-Type can be serviced at any number of Jaguar dealers or independent specialists.

This Beacham E-Type has only demonstration mileage since its rebirth and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a wonderful and exclusive automobile, with everyday practicality as a bonus. It is perhaps worth mentioning that you can purchase this Jaguar Roadster, with its superior driving dynamics, for what an ordinary but highly restored example might fetch at the Monterey Auction.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
