This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was acquired by the seller’s parents in 1987 and is said to have remained in the family’s garage for the last two decades. It is finished in white with a black soft top over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 equipped with quadruple carburetors. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential, and further equipment includes power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15″ steel wheels. The car is described as a non-running project that requires fuel, cooling, electrical, transmission, and brake service before being driven. This Series III E-Type roadster is now offered with a 2022 service estimate, a repair manual, a collection of spare and removed parts, and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s mother.
The car is finished in white with a black soft top and features a forward-hinged louvered hood, uncovered headlights, and US-spec bumpers. The seller notes that the car requires paintwork.
The 15″ steel wheels are mounted with older 215/70 Roadhandler Tredloc whitewall tires that need to be replaced. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. A repair estimate notes that the brakes require service.
The cabin features front bucket seats upholstered in black leather as well as a color-coordinated dash, center console, and door panels. The car is equipped with air conditioning, though the system does not work. Additional amenities include a Smiths heater as well as a locking glovebox and a sliding rearview mirror.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. A Kienzle analog clock in the center of the dash is flanked by Smiths gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles, approximately approximately 8k of which are said to have been added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller states that the engine last ran in 2022 at the time the aforementioned service estimate was compiled. The record notes that the car requires fuel, cooling, and electrical system repairs. The air cleaner housings and various other parts and components have been removed. A video of the engine turning over can be viewed below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. A repair estimate states that the transmission requires service, and the seller notes rust on the frame.
A collection of spare and removed parts will accompany the car.
Chassis number UD1S21038 is shown on the A-pillar tag above, and the sequence is listed as the VIN on the title prepended with “J73.”
