This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 was purchased new by the seller’s grandfather and was acquired by the seller in 2016. A subsequent refurbishment was carried out over the next five years by Speedwell Engineering of Canton, Georgia, with work that included performing a repaint, refreshing the interior, and rebuilding the front brakes. The car is finished in cream over black leather and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes air conditioning, a RetroSound stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rears, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This Series III E-Type is now offered in Canton, Georgia with a clean Florida title in the names of the seller and their father.
The exterior was stripped to bare metal and refinished during the project which included repairs to the chin scoop, hood, and area above the passenger-side headlight. The bumpers were re-chromed and the weatherstripping replaced at that time. Exterior details include uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a power antenna.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 205/70 Firestone All Season tires. A full-size spare is found in the rear storage area. The Series III E-Type was factory-equipped with power steering, and braking is via four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. The front calipers were rebuilt during the refurbishment and the front rotors replaced.
The 2+2 interior houses black leather front bucket seats and a rear bench that were re-dyed during the refurbishment. The dash pad and interior panels were also re-dyed, while the carpets were replaced and the seat frames were powder coated. Amenities include air conditioning, a RetroSound RetroRadio with Bluetooth connectivity, and a center console with an armrest.
A leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, a handful of which have been added by the seller.
The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. The carburetors, water pump, and alternator were rebuilt during the refurbishment and the battery tray was replaced. The timing was adjusted in December 2024.
The engine block identification stamp corresponds to the number is listed on the chassis plate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission. Rust repair was carried out in the trunk floor and rear of the car, and an undercoating was subsequently applied to the chassis.
The car is titled using VIN 1S73801BW, which omits the “UC” prefix from the car number plate.
