This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 was acquired in 2014 by the seller, who undertook a multi-year refurbishment that was completed in 2017. Work included a repaint, installation of a 4L60 four-speed automatic transmission, and an overhaul of the 5.3-liter V12 as well as the suspension, brakes, limited-slip differential, and tan leather upholstery. Finished in dark blue, the car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an AM/FM radio, a gear-reduction starter, a dual exhaust system, a later-style ignition system, high-velocity cooling fans, and air conditioning converted to utilize R134a refrigerant. The oil was changed in April 2023. This Series III E-Type is now offered with a tool kit, a jack, a car cover, a custom windshield sunshade, spare paint and clearcoat, spare parts, the removed transmission, receipts, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Nebraska title in the seller’s name.

Previously finished in light tan, the body was separated from the frame and was reportedly chemically stripped before being coated with PPG epoxy primer and refinished in Jaguar Dark Blue using PPG Deltron basecoat and clearcoat. The seller states the frame was stripped and repainted, small parts were bead-blasted and powder-coated, the hardware was stripped and re-plated in cadmium, and the chrome parts were re-plated. A rust hole under the brake booster was repaired, the windshield replaced, and the undercoating painted black per the seller. Details include uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, a power antenna, pop-out rear quarter windows, and twin bullet-style mirrors.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 185-series Michelin X redline tires. The four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors were reportedly disassembled, cleaned, and overhauled with a replacement master cylinder and seals as well as a refreshed brake booster. The suspension received replacement bushings and ball joints as well as powder-coated or re-plated parts per the seller. The power steering pump is said to have been overhauled and the steering rack rebuilt.

The 2+2 cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench reupholstered in tan leather with black piping from John Skinner Ltd. as well as color-coordinated replacement door panels, carpets, and a vulcanized wool headliner according to the seller. Interior equipment includes an AM/FM radio, wind-up windows, a locking glovebox, chrome trim, and air conditioning.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 2,100 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine was reportedly rebuilt under current ownership with replacement pistons, rings, valves and valve guides, and crank and rod bearings. The quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors were overhauled along with the air pump and alternator, per the seller. Modifications include a high-torque starter with gear reduction, high-velocity electric cooling fans, and an OPUS ignition system modified with later components and a 45k ignition coil. The seller reports the engine block and cylinder heads were cleaned and sealed with a catalyzed clear coat, the air conditioning system was overhauled and converted to use R134a refrigerant, and the gulp valve on the air-injector system was removed. An oil change was performed in April 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement GM 4L60 four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential that was reportedly refreshed under current ownership. The seller states the transmission was overhauled prior to installation and required modifications to the transmission tunnel for fitment.

Receipts will accompany the car along with manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, a jack, a knockoff tool and hammer, a car cover, a custom windshield sunshade, spare paint and clearcoat, and spare parts including a removed transmission.

Photos showing the car at various stages of the refurbishment can be viewed in the gallery.

The Nebraska title displays the VIN sequence 1S72933BW, omitting the prefix “UC” included in the chassis number. The windshield VIN tag reads 1S72933BW and is pictured in the gallery along with the reproduction door-jamb identification sticker.
