Car to be at auction 12/15
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2015-11-28/car/ref-9-jaguar-e-type-siii-fhc- ...

Auction description:
Historics at Brooklands
Lot 210 - 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III Fixedhead Coupé
Registration TSX 56K
Chassis Number VC1572912
Engine Number 7S5038SA
Odometer reading 94,150 miles
Estimate £10,000 - £16,000

We are pleased to offer this 1972 example of a V12, 2+2 fixedhead coupé which requires light restoration. Originally a lefthand drive example, it was exported to the USA but was re-imported to Scotland in 1990 before the new owner took it to France for a year. Back in Scotland it changed ownership, which is reflected in the MoT test certificates for 1993 to 1997. The current Scottish owner bought the car in 1997 and had it converted to righthand drive by E-Type specialist M&C Wilkinson of Doncaster. After enjoyable trouble free touring, including a trip to Switzerland, the car was recorded 'off-road' in 2000 due to other commitments. It has been stored since in the owner's private garage and regularly cleaned, polished and the engine run to temperature. Today, this V12 E-Type is presented in its original Old English White livery with contrasting black leather interior. The coachwork is reported to be straight with a few blemishes requiring some light work. The rear axle was rebuilt in 1999; however, all the suspension and brakes are in need of refurbishment. The engine starts and quickly settles into a smooth and reassuring idle whilst displaying very good oil pressure, the manual gearbox operated smoothly; however, the clutch hydraulics are now also in need of attention. The interior is in good original order with relined roof trim and a history file containing the original US service book, various customs and other paperwork from this car's history including more recent receipts. This is an attractive and usable example for anyone prepared to apply some TLC and quickly enjoy the reward of Jaguar's sublime V12 motoring.

Car to return to auction 11/19

Odometer Reading: 95000

The final E-type incarnation saw the still-popular model become more grand tourer than sports car, but it still retained much of the aura and consequently popularity of the earlier models. As this 2+2 example shows, the V12-engined Series 3 remained popular in export markets but has thoughtfully been converted to right hand drive from its original left-hand drive configuration it had when exported to the USA. It went Scotland in 1990, spent a year in France and the steering conversion was carried out in 1997, the vendor says. A 1972 example, presented in less commonly seen white, this 'family' E-type has very good bodywork and paint (a complete re-spray involved no new panels being fitted), while the tinted glass and chrome is highly presentable. The shut lines are straight and tight too and the chrome wire wheels continue the well-presented theme. Contrasting with the white coachwork the black interior is smart and usable, the seat facings being patinated but not overly worn, while a re-lined roof is the sole deviation from the otherwise original interior. The centre console and dashboard are in fine order, as are the door cards. Mechanically this 2+2 is said to be very good, the engine starting and running well (with good oil pressure and re-conditioned carburettors), backed by a very good gearbox, suspension and brakes: The engine bay is presentable but could be improved by specialist detailing. In all, a highly usable and practical version of the final E-type series, sensibly estimated.

Sold by Bicester Sports and Classics of Aylesbury in March 2022. Amended seller's description below.

This is a lovely 2+2 example that has been continuously maintained to a high standard with invoices including restoration works totalling some £30,000 over the past four years, all itemised in the comprehensive history file which includes the original service book and handbook. Finished in Old English White with Black leather interior it is a stunning car, superb to drive with the benefits of constant maintenance shining through. It tight to handle and quiet at high speeds. Recent expenditure includes rechromed bumpers, new wire wheels, fitted high tech tracker and immobiliser, retro radio. This is one of the nicest Series 3 Coupes, fully inspected and serviced.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
