Sellers description:
A good example of a totally rust free, matching numbers, low mileage Jaguar XKE 2+2. Although the speedo does not work after looking around this car I am certain that the mileage shown on the clock is very close to original. The car still has original paint, although it needs to have the dents taken out and refinished properly. At least with this car what you see is what you get. Yes it has dents but there is no evidence of previous body repairs or accident damage. The interior is also very original, unfortunately having sat for many years in the California sun it also needs re-upholstering. The windows work and the seats recline properly and the door panels are very nice having all of the chrome strips and hardware. The glass in good condition, the windshield has a round chip about the size of a nickel, in the top center that may be able to be repaired by a good windshield specialist.
Starting from cold with the choke, it has plenty of power and the engine sounds good. Both cooling fans kick in ( one is a little lazy ) and keep the car running at a good temperature. The gearbox works well, pulling away smoothly, shifting firmly. On the road it runs smooth and has very good manners. The ride firm yet forgiving and there is plenty of performance on tap. The brakes feel good and it pulls up straight, the parking brake does not hold. The back axle is nice and quiet, there are not any unwanted suspension noises and the handling is good. The power steering works well as long as you keep fluid in it but it leaks out of the steering rack quite profusely. As far as other leaks go the engine is very dry and has been recently gone through having new rings and bearings, valve job, seals etc. The fuel system has also been overhauled, carbs rebuilt and gas tank treated with the ‘renu’ process. The exhaust system is new but it is quite loud as the centre mufflers have been omitted from the system. Most of the gauges do not work ( tach does) along with the side lights, head lights ( no switches in the dash ) , heater fans, map and interior lights and horn also do not. The electrical system does not look to be burnt or butchered. The AC equipment is missing the condenser, but otherwise complete. The passenger door has the annoying problem of being locked whenever it is closed. There is no interior rear view mirror. The body is completely rust free, although the drivers floor show the marks of an overenthusiastic jack man! This car has been stored for a large number of years in a warm, dry California climate. This car is very complete, very low mileage and it runs and drives well. It was last registered in California in 1989.
