Ebay item 3/25/07
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $5,000, no bids received, auction ended. Complete VIN on this car is J69P1R42246.

Sellers description:
Beautiful 1969 Jaguar XK E-Type 2+2. This car is excellent for restoration being that it is probably 99% complete. The only thing visible that I can see is that it is missing the chrome trim above the windshield. Other than that everything else looks to be there. As for the body- there are a few small dings on the front passenger side. As you can see in the pictures, the driver's side has bondo on the front. But what it appears to be is small minor dents- it looks worse than what it actually is. The rest of the body is straight with no rust rot and very minimal surface rust. This car came out of California. The driver's door needs adjustment because it is slightly dropped, other than that it shuts fine and looks great. As for the interior, look at the pictures, they speak for themselves. On a scale from 1 to 10, I give it a 7. As for the drivetrain, the car starts and runs and would drive but the clutch master cylinder needs to be rebuilt. You can bleed it and it will work for three or four days then it has air again. Like I said the car is for restoration. It will need to be gone through- brakes, hoses, engine tune-up, weather stripping, etc. I would like to include that the front windshield also has a chip probably from a rock.

Car returns to ebay 6/1/07
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $3,383, no reserve, 11 bids, 6 days left in auction. 100.3k miles. Car now located in Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

Sellers description:
1969 Jaguar XKE 2+2 with just over 100,000 original miles on it. This car has always been a Southern California car until I brought it to Georgia a few months ago. There is NO rust out anywhere on this car. It has also never been in an accident. It is a 4-speed with all original matching-number components. It came from the factory with air conditioning and power steering, which is fairly rare. The original color of the car was bright red (signal red.) The interior is in very good condition, except for a tear on the center armrest and some loose material on the dash. The car was in running and driving condition when I got it, but has not been started for a few months. It will need a tune-up and the clutch master cylinder rebuilt, as well as the bottom water hose replaced before it can be driven. The only thing I noticed to be missing on the car is the chrome strip that runs across the top of the windshield. Everything else that was on the car when it left the factory is still there. This would be a good car to restore because it needs no rust repair whatsoever, and it is a very straight car with more than the usual XKE options.

Previous auction received no bids.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
