Auction description:
This Series 2 example has had just one owner from new and comes with lots of history to verify the low recorded mileage of just 35,716 miles. Exceptionally sound and original throughout, it has just been recommissioned after long term storage and is due to have a fresh MOT before the sale. Destined to spend most of its early life in London, it was specified from new with an automatic gearbox and power steering to make light work of city driving. Fitted with a desirable Webasto sunroof, it must have cut quite a dash carving through the streets of the capital in the sunny 1970s. Recently treated to a full rear brake overhaul, it is said to drive very well indeed with none of the rattling and creaking that you often get with high mileage or poorly restored examples. All it really needs is a fresh coat of paint to restore it to its former glory. Such low mileage, original and unrestored cars seldom come to market and this example will amply reward the sympathetic improvement that is now required.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
