Auction description:
2020 Shannons Autumn Timed Online Auction
Lot 81
1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series 2 Coupe
$80,000-$100,000
Bids Close: Wednesday 3 June 8.19pm AEST*
Location: Sydney
Desirable 4.2 Jaguar E-type FHC
Upgraded with sunroof and power steering
Good driver-level car from long-term owner
According to the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate supplied with the car, this Jaguar E-type 4.2 Fixed-Head Coupe was an original home market car finished in cream with red trim and first sold through Henlys of London in May 1970. Exactly when the car arrived in Australia isn’t recorded - imported by a doctor on the Gold Coast who cherished the E-type for some years, it had one further owner before our QLD vendor bought it in the mid-1990s. Nicely optioned with a sunroof and power steering, the motor was rebuilt approximately 14,000 miles ago just prior to purchase and the 4.2-litre straight six fires easily and runs well. The older paint shows well, while the interior has been retrimmed in beige leather and comes with a modern sound system. The owner had the gearbox rebuilt shortly after purchasing the E-type and the front end completely overhauled circa 2000. A good driver-level car, this desirable six-cylinder E-type coupe has been maintained in good order ever since and regularly exercised in the Gold Coast hinterland. Currently registered in QLD, the E-type will be sold unregistered.
