This Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that is said to have been purchased new by the seller’s uncle, with whom it remained in Oakland, California for 50 years before being inherited by the seller and his wife in 2014. Power is from a numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and the car wears faded gold paint over tan leather upholstery. Mechanical service during the seller’s ownership reportedly included replacement of braking and suspension components as well as the radiator, fuel pump, transmission output shaft seal, exhaust system, and more. This E-Type is offered with a Jaguar dealer booklet, a spare wheel, a black California license plate, and a clean Indiana title in the name of the seller’s wife. Golden Sand Original paint.
The gold paint has faded to a satin effect and shows blemishes on the nose, panel edges, fuel filler area, and elsewhere. The seller notes varying shades in the finish, including a lighter hue on the right door. Details include covered headlamps, taillights mounted above the rear bumpers, a bullet side mirror, and a black California license plate wearing 1999 registration tags.
Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels with oxidized spokes are mounted with Dunlop SP Sport radial tires showing 2017 date codes. A new brake master cylinder, calipers, pads, and rotors were reportedly installed under current ownership as well as replacement cadmium-plated front control arms, tie rods, ball joints, and front suspension bushings.
The cockpit is trimmed in tan leather over low-backed bucket seats. A tear is shown on the outboard edge of the driver’s backrest, and the floors are lined with discolored carpets. A Blaupunkt push-button AM/FM radio is linked to speakers mounted on the sides of the center console. Window and door seals are cracked and dry.
A three-spoke steering wheel with a perforated vinyl wrap frames a Smiths speedometer and tachometer in a vinyl-clad dash that also houses early-style toggle switches. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 100 of which have been driven under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The rear cargo area is lined with carpet and retains plastic rub strips, and a fifth wire wheel is housed under the floor. The seller notes a dried seal around the rear hatch, which is in need of alignment and rubs while being opened and closed.
The numbers-matching 3.8L inline-six features dual overhead cams and breathes through triple SU carburetors that are said to have been rebuilt under current ownership. A new fuel pump and lines have also been installed along with a replacement radiator. The carburetors are said to be in need of syncing, and the engine pings under load.
Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission with an unsynchronized first gear. The clutch hydraulic cylinders and transmission output shaft seal are said to have been replaced, and a new Bell dual exhaust system was installed. Independent rear suspension is carried in a subframe with four coil springs, lower control arms, and inboard disc brakes.
The identification plate lists chassis, body, and drivetrain numbers assigned by the factory.
