Ebay item 1/14/08

Current bid $16,000 reserve not met, 1 bid, 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
Very nice Southern California 1964 Jaguar Series I Coupe with a known provenance since its purchase at Peter Satori Motors in 1964. I am the second owner of the car having purchased it from the estate of the first owner in 1987. The car was maintained by Frank Monise and his son Frank Monise, Jr. of Frank Monise Motors in Pasadena, CA (google "Frank MoniseMoniseMoniseMoniseMoniseMoniseMonise" for info on this legend of sportscar racing) for its' former owner and myself with objective of keeping the cars as true to its original condition as possible. As result the car is today an excellent example of an "unmolested" late Series I Coupe as you are likely to find with only a 1977 repaint in its' original opalescent blue exterior color keeping it from being a true survivor.

The car spent all of its' life, until ten years ago, in Southern California where it was kept garaged when not in use. It moved with me to Virginia Ten years ago where it has been kept in a heated garage. As a consequence of this history the car is in rust free condition with amazingly well preserved interior. The body, engine, drive train, chrome, glass, seats and upholstery are all original to the car, Only the exterior surfaces were repainted; the door sills and under hood surfaces remain the original factory opalescent metallic light blue paint and the seats have their original blue with light gray piping leather facings. Aside from maintenance and replacement of consumables (brake pads, plugs, hoses, belts, etc) original components have been rebuilt (generator, SU carbs, etc) rather than replaced so the car is 99% original spec ( hose clamps are currently non original type). The interior is all original.....the only departure bein the seat facings being redyde and original spec new carpets replacing the original ones.

I went over the car two years ago in preparation to showing it in the "preservation" class for original cars at the VA Jaguar Club's Concours d'Elegance, giving it a thorough cleaning and I can tell you that interior and exterior chrome are in great shape (with the exception of the pot metal sunvisor fittings which show slight pitting) There is a worn edge of the drivers seat where the aftermarket seat belt abraded it and there are some worn spots on some of the cover trim (rear hatch hinge cover) ....but all remains in amazingly good shape for a 44 year old car.

Over the last two years I have had the cooling system (original radiator recorred), the original generator rebuilt, new fuel pump, and brake lines. I have put about 200 miles on the car since this work was done. I should also mention the car a has 11,000 miles on it since the engine and drive train were completely overhauled by Frank Monise.

All numbers match with the exception of the gear box which was new Moss unit at time of drive train overhaul (11,000 miles ago), however I still have original Moss box EB 12682 J8 and it will come with the car.

I just bought this car from Owen Conner who is the second owner. I expect delivery within the next few days from VA to FL. I will report back on originality and everything else claimed above very soon. I would be interested to hear if anyone knows anything about this car, the previous owners (the first being a dentist called Dr James Dean, California).

The car has zero rust as claimed and panel fit is awesome. The doors close very solidly and overall everything that the previous owner claims were true. However, engine rebuild, although only 11,000 miles ago was 22 years ago therefore, the engine is coming out for an inspection of the quality of work as timing chain snapped before I received delivery of the car from Owen Conner. The cylinder head is being blasted, re-ground, flowed and new valves, guides and seats installed. Existing cams cleaned and re-ground. New timing chains, chromatic full engine gasket set, seals and big end bolts are all that hopefully will be needed when engine is dismatled, cleaned and re-assembled (I am hopeful that no further work will be required if re-build was only 11,000 miles ago......). Every part/ /item that has been replaced on the since it was new has been kept for the sake of originality except for the carpets. Replacement leather hide also provided. The first and only re-spray on the car all those years ago is crackling all over the bonnet and roof and therefore, a professional paint job will be undertaken, but only on the exterior as all original patina everywhere else is just too good (zero rust) and that includes under the bonnet, spare wheel pan and space frame. The original Moss gearbox has been rebuild and ready for installation to keep it numbers matching.

The head has been completed at a cost of over $1800 with only a minimum 10,000 shaved off to ensure completely level and porting completed. The new valves, seats, springs, guides etc. were sorced from Terry's Jag. The engine has been stripped down and all measurements done. Everything looks great with no excessive wear anywhere and it is still a mystery why the timing chain snapped. We have found 10:1 compression pistons already installed in excellent condition. Bores are awesome with the fit of the rings still with minimal play. Looks like much of the work done by Frank Monise's shop was pretty good. A light weight racing jaguar flywheel was also a bonus find. After consulting with my engineer / mechanic (a certain Mr Clive Parker, Le Mans winning Jaguar Pit Crew chief to name but one of his many accolades) we have decided to thoroughly dip and clean the engine and start to re-assemble. Clive advised that the crankshaft was previously ground and still fantastic, cams are excellent as well. Rods, bearings etc all look like new. List of parts purchased so far are a full set of AP Racing engine bearings aquired from Garry Pearson in UK. Welsh Jag composite head gasket, full gasket set, main, cam & front crank lock tabs, cylinder head studs, timing chain kit, upper and lower timing chains, washer main bearings, seal rope for crank and a freeze plug kit. From Classic Jaguar an alloy water pump pulley and a fly wheel lock tab. We are currently searching for a 9.5" racing clutch set up to match the Jaguar racing flywheel better. Clive hopes to have the engine re-assembled by end February '09.

Wow, is it June already ? What happened to completion date of end Feb? How time flies by during these rebuilds!! Anyway, the bottom end has been completely rebuilt by Clive Parker. Clive also lashed down the head and I will be spraying it gold this weekend ready for installation onto the block...... a significant step towards completion. Next up-date before the end of 2009 hopefully!! A variety of small odds and sods purchased with the most expensive being a new piston rings set (standard). Still no luck on a budget matching light weight racing clutch.

We installed the engine in February 2010. All went well. Car started first time with a new battery, new NGK plugs and Castrol oil. No leaks of oil or water. Installed a K& N air filter. Fantastic to have it back running again.
