Current bid $8,100 reserve not met, 3 bids, 9 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1964 JAGUAR E TYPE FIXED HEAD COUPE. THIS IS A RUST FREE, ACCIDENT FREE CALIFORNIA-TEXAS CAR. FACTORY RED CAR. TEXAS TITLE DATED 1988 VIN# J64889064, I THINK THE J 64 MEANS JAGUAR 64, WHEN IT WAS ORiginally TITLED IN CALIFORNIA WHEN NEW. IT IS A MATCHING # MOTOR BLOCK AND HEAD ENGINE AND HEAD # RA3149-9 BODY# V6330 CAR# 889064 GEAR BOX # EB11121-JS. SHOWS 79K MILES WHICH LOOK ORIGINAL THE CAR WAS REPAINTED ONCE AND THE SEATS REDONE IN VINYL YEARS AGO. THEY ARE WORN. THE CARBS WERE JUST REBUILT,THE MOTOR RUNS WELL, THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER IS OFF ,IT NEEDS REBUILT. I PUT THE CAR IN SEVERAL GEARS AND STARTED IT, IT DRIVES,BUT YOU CANNOT SHIFT OR BRAKE. THE FLOORS ,BODY ,ETC ARE RUST FREE, BY THE WAY, THE MILES ARE DOCUMENTED ON THE TITLE-79367.THIS WOULD BE A GREAT CAR TO RESTORE OR FIX THE SLAVE CYLINDER AND BRAKES AND DRIVE. I CHECKED THE NUMBERS ON THE HEAD, BLOCK AND FRONT FRAME, THEY MATCH. I DID NOT CHECK THE TRANS. I ALSO HAVE A GOOD CHROME WHEEL FOR A SPARE. IT HAS THE JACK. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO DESCRIBE THE VEHICLE AS IT IS,BUT IT IS 42 YEARS OLD AND NEEDS RESTORATION. THE CAR HAS VERY GOOD OIL PRESSURE.

80,521 MILES, ON EBAY 02/08, SELLER WRITES: 1964 Jaguar xke coupe in it’s most iconic and desirable original color. The one you want. I need money for other priorities so I sadly need to let her go. This is the quintessential barn find that was a very nice straight rust free California car that I gave a very thorough going through in order to make her a reliable daily driver without the expense of a cosmetic makeover. However, that does not mean I didn’t do some very significant improvements. I will go through everything that was done at considerable time and expense starting from the exterior, interior, then drive train. When I got the car it had been sitting since 1986. I searched high and low for a car that needed no rust repair or bodywork. If you have any prior knowledge of these cars you will understand that it is a losing battle and poor investment to purchase a rusty example. The car has been repainted probably more than 20 years ago in it’s original color. It was a poor Maaco style paint job but it was the saving factor that helped preserve the car for all these years. It looks great from a distance but is showing its age with an even patina of scratches and chips throughout. I personally like this look and she really looks authentic and not obviously over-restored. Basically the only thing keeping this car from being in the next category of condition is the paint but I didn’t care to spend the money on it. You may think the same. I replaced all the signal light gaskets and the lenses with NOS Lucas replacements. They all work. I replaced the rear hatch seal and window seal. I replaced the door rubber but still have not replaced the window seals on the door or vent windows but they are included. The body shows no signs of crash damage. Under the nose there used to be driving lights at one time and so there are two square holes that are not visible unless looking under the car. The car suffered from the same chronic problem all e-types have which is unknowledgeable individuals who attempt to jack the car up from under the floor pan – in this case the drivers floor has a dent just forward the pedals. It doesn’t cause much problem. The rest of the underside is pretty straight and incredibly clean. The headlight glass and bezels are undamaged. The car comes with Amco bars front and rear that I removed since I don’t care for the way they look. The wire wheels should clean up nice and have no broken spokes. The tires are new. The spare tire is intact but older. The leather seats are pristine and were recently restored with proper materials to concours standards. The original headliner is in nice shape. The sun visors show the usual age sag. The steering wheel is particularly nice. The rear deck area has some small tears on the wheel well covering. The rear deck pad is original and worn but all the rails are there and a new hardura pad will be included. The car comes with brand new concours quality wool carpet that has not yet been installed. The driver’s side carpet was well worn and tatty so I removed it and ordered the kit but never really felt the need to install it since I had Jaguar rubber floor mats anyway. The dash is very nice and all the gauges work properly except for the clock of course. The horn does not work and it may be a simple fix. Turn signals work fine. Lights work fine, radio is there but not hooked up since it had an aftermarket unit and I found a proper Motorola but never bothered to connect it. The doors shut properly and the rear hatch release works fine. The mechanical aspect of the car is where I concentrated most time and money. I like to keep things as original as possible and reliable. So, some things where replaced whether it was necessary or not. Spin-on oil filter adaptor. New exhaust system. All the brake and clutch master cylinders were replaced. Rear calipers rebuilt. The water pump was replaced. The radiator is a new high quality aluminum unit with integral electric cooling fan. The system works flawlessly and the car runs fine on the hottest summer days in traffic. The carbs were rebuilt and have high altitude needles for our 7000-foot elevation. If you take the car to sea level it may run lean and need adjusting. The clutch was replaced 500 miles ago and I took the opportunity to install an aluminum flywheel. The car retains its original moss box, which means first gear is unsynchronized along with its characteristic slow and precise shifting habits. A love hate thing for many people but once again originality was important to me and all numbers match on this car. The engine has great compression on all six cylinders. New plug wires and electronic ignition mean that this car fires up very nicely. The choke works and is only needed for a short time when cold. The generator is freshly rebuilt and the charging system is strong. New battery. New belts. New air filter. The windshield washer bottle is NOS but the washer system has not been hooked up. Wipers work. All new Boge shocks all the way around. New brake pads all around including the parking brake. The steering column has the usual play and could use a new felt but not really necessary. New proper submerged type fuel pump. Gas tank was cleaned. New fuel line. If it could be renewed I did it – I’m sure I have not listed it all. All new engine mounts. New radiator and fuel tank rubber mounts. All inner fender and splash pans intact. New rubber bonnet seals. It just goes on and on. The car sounds great, drives great (had it up to 110 and she kept pulling strong), and stops as good as it did in 1964, which isn’t saying much! Burns no oil and leaks hardly anything due to all new gaskets. It is also reliable now so if you were so inclined could drive it home but the heater doesn’t put off much heat and it is cold out this time of year. This car only needs cosmetics to be perfect but in my opinion she is perfect as a daily driver. Why restore and spend the huge money when you can enjoy now and not be paranoid in the shopping center parking lots. She still gets plenty of compliments and is a riot to drive. She is very solid. I do feel I have to remind folks that this is a 44 year old car and anything can go wrong at anytime so I guarantee nothing. The car is sold as is where is all sales final. These older cars are also a chore to drive with no power steering and a highly temperamental gearbox requiring patience to learn so if you have no experience with older Jaguars please do some reading before bidding. The car has a clear title and I will work with your shipper to get it delivered or pick you up from the airport in Albuquerque should you be bold enough to drive this home. The car comes with its original jack but the tool roll has long since disappeared. I will include the shop manual and reproduction owners manual. If you plan to drive home pack tools and a flashlight and renew your AAA membership – best to be safe. Please ask lots of questions and if you know how awful these cars can be please bid with confidence and bid high knowing that you will not be replacing any metal on this car. Deposit of 1000.00 via paypal immediately and full payment within 1 week. I can store the car in my garage for up to one month while you arrange pick-up or delivery.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
