    Ebay item 7/23/10

Current bid $2,000 reserve not met, 1 bid 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $49,000.

    Sellers description:
This is a very nice older restoration of a very early series 1 two person coupe (not a 2+2). Excellent color combination of Opalescent silver grey with red interior. Matching number 3.8 in-line 6 cylinder engine; both the head and block numbers match the data plate. The gearbox is also original and the number matches the data plate. The interior has the desirable aluminum gauge cluster and center console found on the early e-types. I have a Jaguar Heritage Certificate for this car which states the original built date as August 20, 1962 and verifies that all the numbers are accurate. The car was originally red and the color change was very thorough and included the engine frame, floors, trunk floor and even the area behind the gauges where the fuses are located. Opalescent silver grey with red interior was one of the color combination available for 1962. Jaguar Clubs of North America judging rules permit color changes as long as they are done properly and are correct for the model year.

The body is very straight and rust free which is very important on an e-type. Please look at the photos of the bottom of the doors which is a good indication of how solid an e-type is. I checked the engine compression and found it to be excellent with cylinders averaging 150 psi. Oil pressure is also very good at 40 psi while driving at normal operating temperature. Exhaust is very good. The front brakes calipers were done not long ago and I just rebuilt the rear calipers as I found them dragging a little. I also replaced all the cooling hoses as they were starting to show age.

In addition to the aluminum console notice that this car still retains the glass washer bottle and the original round brake canister which were discontinued by 1963. Proper early e-type such as this one have become very collectable since so many were destroyed do to rust or were modified. This is not a perfect show car but an older restoration that has now some aging; still a very nice car. Car comes with spare tire, knock off hammer, owner's manual and lubrication chart.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
