This flatfloor car was the 172 th. LHD E-Type FHC manufactured by Jaguar on 07 November 1961 in Coventry UK. It was delivered new to its first owner K.Ellis in Phoenix AZ later that year. About 10 years later it it showed up in a garage in Marin County in the Bay area CA. It had engine problems at that time and was sold to Mr. J.Masterson from Little River near the Mendocino Coast. He worked on the car but money shortage and time constraints caused him to store the car. To protect it for the salty air in the proximity of the ocean, he stored it in an aluminium Airstream trailer. It stayed there for almost fourty years, until the end of 2012 when he had to sell the trailer. He loaned out the Title to Larry Fuente from Mendocino who is famous for making Mad Car Arts. He developed plans to make a parade car out of it. The car was partly dismantled and primed. I found this E-Type in Januari 2013. it looked rough at first sight, but was without any rust holes underneath. In August I was able to purchase the car from both gentlemen and shipped it to the Netherlands. I sanded the surface of the car and primed it again. The original color scheme was Carmen red with beige interior. Although the interior was changed to black, traces of the original colors were still visible. I assembled the car and added period-correct parts as far as things were lost during the years. Anno 2014 it is complete and conserved and I am glad I could save this diamond in the rough. I added it unrestored to my Jaguar collection and I hope I do not get an offer i can't refuse, so that I can enjoy it sometime longer.

I´m the current owner of 885169. Your car was built and dispatched on the same day like mine. Could you please let me know what is the body number stamped on the upper right rear of your hood/bonnet? Thank you in advance. xke7

There is no body number readable on firewall or bonnet, however the hatch door reveals 1190 instead of the 1195 on the tag on the left rear inner fender. The (original) Vin Plate shows 1190. Looking at other E-Types in the same production week, 1195 looks most logical. Most likely this is another example of discrepancies
between the factories administration and production.

Please have a look at 885169, "Show all slides", "Detail Photos: Other (10)", "Uploaded January 2007", photo 2007-01-15 (Uploaded: 2007-01-15 11:31:01)
There is the body number stamped on the upper right rear of the hood/bonnet.

There are discrepancies around that production period:

Chassis Number: 885169,
Body Number: V1192,
Bonnet (stamped): 1208;

Chassis Number: 885183,
Body Number: V1198,
Bonnet (stamped): 1217;

Chassis Number: 885201,
Body Number: V1219,
Bonnet (stamped): 1235;

Is there no number stamped on your bonnet?

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
