Description from above auction:
ESTIMATE €90,000-€100,000
Auction 2016 Legende et Passion
Lot Details
Lot Number 151
Reg. Number EU Registered
Chassis Number 881815
Year 1964
Make Jaguar
Model E-Type
The car was originally despatched from Browns Lane on the 17th July 1964, destined for a Mr. W.E. Iverson in Rosemead California.

Later this stunning E-type found its way to Finland, since enjoying a huge "nut and bolt" restoration during 2013 and 2014.

Presented in its original shade of Ivory with a green leather interior, this lovely E-Type offers the next owner buyer a fantastic opportunity to purchase one of the best of British motoring history. Given the recent soar in prices of early Series 1 E-Types, we would expect this to also be a solid investment whilst providing elegant, and joyous open-topped motoring. This early 3.8 Roadster is offered with a UK MoT certificate and UK V5 document.

CC: 3781

US-supplied, left-hand drive Series I 3.8 Roadster
From a small private collection of cars
Comprehensively refurbished in 2013 - 2014
Simply lovely. An absolutely classic E-Type

From a small private collection, this particular left-hand drive Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster was originally despatched from the Browns Lane factory on 17th July 1964 and travelled across the Atlantic to its first owner, a Mr W. Iverson of Rosemead California. After some years, the car found its way to Finland where it was fully restored during 2013 - 2014.

Our vendor purchased the car three years ago and has since had it fully repainted in Ivory. The interior is finished in black leather with a black mohair hood. Unfortunately, the history file for this lovely E-Type has been lost at some point in its various transatlantic crossings, and consequently, it is only supplied with a UK V5c and an MOT. That said, you only need to look at this delightful E-Type to see how good the bonnet and door shut lines are, along with its excellent overall finish.

Lot 126 at the Artcurial Garden Party auction sale of Classic Cars at Saint Tropez Golf Course, Gassin on 29 June 2024. Sold for 95,360 euros. Catalogue description below.

This desirable 3.8 litre E Type was built on 6th July 1964 and dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York on 17th July. As evidenced by its Jaguar Heritage certificate it was finished in Cream with Black upholstery and Black soft top. A note in the file states that its first owner, Craig Benfield, was a captain in the US Army. He kept the car for about 20 years, until it crossed the Atlantic again to reside in England for around 30 years. When purchased in Paris in 2020 by its current owner the car went through a major restoration which included the bodywork, engine and upholstery.

It was necessary to replace the engine as the cast iron block had failed. A full engine rebuild using a correct 3.8 litre block was carried out by MC Motors in Signes. At the same time the gearbox was overhauled, shock absorbers and rear wheel bearings changed and the transmission was restored. Over 22,000 euros were spent between 2020 and 2023. Today the car is in excellent working condition; it has a patina from the last restoration, which gives it incredible charm. It will arouse the desire of enthusiasts to get behind the wheel and enjoy the mesmerising sound of the engine as well as appreciate the work carried out on this car.
