Lot #85116

This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster is finished in white over black and red upholstery and is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, chrome bumpers, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a push-button radio. The car was acquired by the current owner in May 2012, and it is said to have remained in storage for three years before being serviced in March 2021. This Series I XKE roadster is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a top boot, tools, service manuals, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Colorado title in the current owner’s name.

The car is finished in white and is said to have been repainted in 2013. Features include a replacement black soft top, chrome bumpers with overriders, headlight covers, a louvered hood, and central dual exhaust outlets. Additional close-up images showing the lighting, badging, and trim are presented in the gallery below.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-series Coker Classic redline tires that are in need of replacement due to age. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The interior features low-back bucket seats trimmed in black upholstery with red piping, which is complimented by color-coordinated door panels and side trim. Appointments include black carpets, a center console, a heater and defroster, lap belts, hand-crank side windows, and a push-button radio. Areas of wear are noted throughout.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and centrally-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates under 55k miles, and true mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors. Service performed in March 2021 is said to have involved fluid changes.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

Service records, parts catalogs, a service manual, and an owner’s handbook are included in the sale along with tools and a top boot.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
