This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was built on April 11, 1963 and was acquired by the seller’s father in the late 1970s in Seattle, Washington as a non-running project. Power is from a replacement 3.8-liter inline-six that was reportedly sourced from another 1963 XKE and installed in the late 1990s. Subsequent work included an overhaul of the brake system, fitment of a replacement top, refurbishing of the interior, installation of new wheels, and a paint job in metallic blue. Most of the refurbishment work was reportedly performed by the seller and his father until around 2006. The car is said to have been driven only 300 miles in the past 13 years. This XKE is now offered with its original engine, older wheels, spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a tool kit, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Opalescent Silver Blue, the body was taken to bare metal and refinished in a darker metallic blue by the seller around 2003. The seller notes three paint chips that have been touched up. The white convertible top reportedly was installed in the 1990s, and the seller notes a tear above the door opening on the passenger side as shown in the gallery.
New 15″ chrome knock-off wire wheels were fitted at the time of the paint job and wear size 205/70 Pirelli P4000 tires. Other work included re-chromed bumpers and a refurbished brake system. The seller notes that the left front brake caliper is sticking. The previously installed wheels are included in the sale.
The seller’s father continued to drive this XKE for a few years on the weekends and to attend local car shows until around 2006. The seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl, and matching carpets and door panels have been installed. A factory wood-rimmed steering wheel is retained, while aluminum trim accents the dash and center console. The seller notes that there is a split seam on the outer bolster of the driver’s seat.
Just under 76k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 1,100 of which were added by the seller and his father, although only about 300 miles have been added since 2006.
Power is from a 3.8-liter inline-six that was reportedly sourced from another 1963 XKE and rebuilt in the late 1990s. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission, and the seller notes that the frame was painted a darker blue than the body of the car. The oil reportedly was changed in July 2019, at which time the battery also was replaced.
The body was reportedly refinished by the seller around 2003. A bottle of touch-up paint is included with the sale. Various spare parts accompany the sale and include the original engine, a spare cylinder head and carburetors, the removed wheels, and more.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows an engine-stamping number that matches what is depicted on the car’s fender tag and on the extra engine included in the sale. The document also indicates that the car was originally dispatched to New York in April 1963 finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with a dark blue interior and a black top.
