This 1963 Jaguar XKE project is a running Series I roadster that left the factory finished in Opalescent Bronze over a Tan interior. The car reportedly has been in the seller’s family since 1990 and resided in West Texas until recently being relocated to Fort Worth. Refurbishment work carried out between 1997 and 2000 is said to have included engine and transmission rebuilds and a partial exterior refinish. Recent work by the seller included a fuel-system overhaul, fitment of new ignition components, and installation of new front shocks. The seller notes that while the car runs and drives, it will need additional work to be roadworthy. This XKE project is now offered with spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service manuals, maintenance records, period literature, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The car was originally finished in Opalescent Bronze and was partially refinished in its factory shade in the late 1990s, although the front-hinged hood was reportedly not painted at the time and shows areas of primer and other imperfections. The seller also notes that the hood has not been fitted or shimmed and the front bumper is currently not installed. Close-up photos of the finish and trim are included in the gallery.
15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped with older Dunlop tires, which reportedly show signs of dry rot. The car was originally fitted with a sand-colored convertible top, and the current material is said to be in need of replacement. New front shocks were reportedly installed in April 2019, and new Spax rear shocks, a roll of sand-colored top material, and an extra rear deck lid with luggage rack are included in the sale.
The bucket seats have been re-trimmed in their original Tan color. The door panels, carpet, and trim are currently black and said to be in need of refurbishment. New aluminum trim accents for the dash and center console are included, and the shift boot and radio are absent.
A factory wood-rimmed steering wheel is retained and fronts Smiths instrumentation, which includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Just under 3k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 100 of which were added by the seller and his family since 1990.
Power is from a replacement 3.8-liter inline-six that was reportedly sourced from a 1964 XKE and rebuilt in 2000. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission, and recent maintenance is said to have included an overhaul of the carburetors along with fitment of a new water pump, spark-plug wires, ignition coil, fuel lines, and fuel pump. The seller notes oil leaks and a dragging starter motor.
