This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on October 18, 1962, and distributed via Jaguar Cars of New York. The car resided in Wilmington, North Carolina, before being relocated to Maryland, where it was refurbished by Vintage Restorations of Union Bridge between 2002 and 2015. Work involved refinishing the body in white, refreshing the interior in red leather upholstery, and overhauling the 3.8-liter inline-six, suspension, and brake system. The car is equipped with a replacement four-speed manual transmission, which was rebuilt in July 2023. Additional features include a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a stainless steel dual exhaust system, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM push-button radio. Service performed since 2022 involved adjusting the triple SU carburetors, installing electronic ignition components, replacing the fuel pump, and overhauling the clutch components. This XKE was acquired by the current owner in 2021 and is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, service records, and a clean Massachusetts title.
Finished from the factory in Cream, the body was stripped to bare metal and refinished during the aforementioned refurbishment. A number of trim pieces were either replaced or refinished at that time, and exterior details include a black soft top with a matching boot, recessed headlights with clear covers, split chrome-finished bumpers, a louvered forward-hinged hood, triple windshield wipers, and taillights mounted above the rear bumpers.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-off spinners and wear 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The car is equipped with a fully independent suspension, which was overhauled as part of the refurbishment. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes, with the rears mounted inboard. The rear wheel bearings, steering rack boots, and upper control arm ball joint boots were replaced in June 2022.
The reupholstered interior features low-back buckets seats trimmed in red leather accompanied by a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Textured aluminum trim adorns the dash and center console, while the Blaupunkt AM/FM push-button radio is linked to speakers mounted on each side of the center stack.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are housed in the center of the dash above a row of toggle switches for vehicle functions. The five-digit odometer shows 12k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter inline-six was rebuilt by Vintage Restorations as part of the refurbishment. Work performed since 2022 involved adjusting the triple SU carburetors, installing electronic ignition components, and replacing the fuel pump.
Cylinder head stamping R 8282-9 is listed on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate as the engine number.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transmission that was rebuilt in July 2023. Additional work performed at that time include replacing the bell housing, overhauling the clutch components, and resurfacing the flywheel. A stainless steel dual exhaust system has been installed.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
