Auction description:
Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction
17 - 18 August 2007
Lot 295
1961 Jaguar Series I E-Type Flat Floor Roadster
Sold for $49,500
Chassis no. 876447

The 1961 Jaguar Series I E-Type Roadster offered here is a highly presentable flat floor example finished in red with a tan convertible top and matching tonneau cover. There are 7,816 miles registered on the odometer, which are believed to be the proper mileage accumulated since restoration. The interior is skillfully and attractively finished in red and black; it features the extremely sporty toggle switches and aluminum finish dash and console found only on the early E-Types. With an AM/FM Blaupunkt radio, rollup windows, a luggage rack and proper knock off wire wheels with redline tires, the Jaguar is well equipped. The engine, equipped with its three SU carburetors and properly detailed, is an impressive sight.
This E-Type has enjoyed careful maintenance and loving care; it will surely reward its next owner with the excellent performance and timeless good looks that made the E-Type an instant classic over 40 years ago.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
