This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a Series I flat-four roadster that was acquired by the current owner in 1989 and later underwent a refurbishment from 2013 to 2016 by JK Restorations of Oswego, Illinois. Work involved rust repairs, a bare metal repaint, an engine rebuild, and overhauls of the suspension and brakes, while the convertible top and interior are noted to have been re-trimmed by Ogden Top & Trim Shop of Berwyn, Illinois. The car is finished in Opalescent Bronze over Beige leather, and power comes from a replacement 3.8-liter inline-six that is fed by triple SU carburetors and paired with a Moss four-speed manual gearbox. Further equipment includes glass headlamp covers, 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a Bell stainless steel exhaust system. This XKE Series I is now offered on dealer consignment in Oregon with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records, a tool kit, and a clean Washington State title.
The body was fitted with replacement panels and refinished in its factory color of Opalescent Bronze as part of the aforementioned multi-year refurbishment. The tan convertible top and boot cover are replacement units, and further exterior details include a louvered hood, glass headlamp covers, and split chrome bumpers.
The 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared knock-off spinners and are wrapped with 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare wheel and tire are stored under the trunk floor. The suspension was overhauled during the refurbishment with replacement shocks, bushings, tie rod ends, and ball joints. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes that were fitted with replacement rotors, pads, and lines in 2013.
The “flat floor” cabin features low-back bucket seats that have been reupholstered in coral leather that extends to the central tunnel and door panels. Textured aluminum trim adorns the dashboard and center console. A heater, a vertically adjustable rearview mirror, and lap belts are further details.
The factory three-spoke steering wheel features exposed aluminum on the inner rim and was refinished in 2022. A Smiths 160-mph speedometer is accompanied by a tachometer with an inset clock, and centrally mounted auxiliary gauges indicate water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer was reset during the refurbishment and now shows 800 miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 3.8-liter inline-six was rebuilt by Auto Machine in St. Charles, Illinois, in 2013. The engine is equipped with triple SU carburetors, and a Bell exhaust system has also been added.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
A tool kit as well as a knock-off hammer will accompany the car.
A Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate lists colors, identification numbers, and a dispatch date of January 19, 1962. Service records are also included in the sale.
