This Jaguar began life as an XKE Series I roadster, reportedly a 1961 model, and was modified in the style of an E-Type Lightweight in the early 2010s. The modifications were reportedly performed by Valley Motorsport of Market Drayton, England, in preparation for Jaguar E-Type 50th Anniversary celebrations held at Silverstone Circuit, though it is noted that the car did not participate in the event. The hand-fabricated aluminum bodywork is finished in black, while the race-prepped interior features high-back bolstered bucket seats trimmed in black upholstery. Power is provided by a replacement Crosthwaite and Gardiner 3.8-liter inline-six fitted with triple Weber side-draft carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes 15” Dunlop-style alloy wheels, a vented aluminum hardtop, a Custom Cages roll cage, a fuel cell, a Lifeline fire-suppression system, a Schroth Racing multi-point harness, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. Work performed in preparation for the sale involved tuning the carburetors and replacing the battery. This E-type Lightweight re-creation was acquired by the current owner in 2020 and is now offered by the consigning dealer in Missouri with FIA Technical Passport paperwork and a clean Florida title.
The E-Type Lightweight was developed by Jaguar in 1963 in response to Ferrari’s introduction of the 250 GTO the year prior and featured an aluminum monocoque and body panels in place of the production E-Type’s steel elements. This re-creation is based on the underpinnings of a 1961 XKE roadster and is said to have been built in the early 2010s by Valley Motorsport using aluminum bodywork fabricated by RJ Panels Limited of Bedworth, United Kingdom.
The body and removable hardtop are finished in black with white number 60 roundels on the hood and door panels along with “437 YUJ” graphics on the front bodywork. Further exterior details include a vented bonnet with outside latches and leather hood straps as well as drilled vent panels on the roof and trunk lid, plexiglass headlight covers, dual mirrors mounted on the side window frames, a rear rain light, and a Monza-style fuel filler cap.
Dunlop-style 15″ alloy wheels are secured via three-eared knock-offs and mounted with Dunlop Racing tires measuring 6.00″ up front and 7.00″ out back. The seller states that the suspension has been modified with rose-jointed front and rear anti-roll bars along with adjustable SP Suspension coilovers at each corner. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with cooling ducts and inboard rear rotors.
The right-hand-drive cockpit houses a pair of high-back bolstered bucket seats trimmed in black leather with diamond-stitching. A Schroth Racing harness is equipped for the driver, and a body-color Custom Cages roll cage has been installed. Additional appointments include aluminum door cards, cloth window pull straps, a trunk-mounted fuel cell, and a Lifeline fire-suppression system.
The three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub and fronts a Stack 8k-rpm tachometer and a Smiths 160-mph speedometer, the latter of which does not work. Auxiliary gauges to the driver’s left are mounted above a row of vehicle control toggle switches and monitor fuel pressure, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and oil temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 2 miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 3.8-liter inline-six was installed as part of the build and reportedly features a Crosthwaite and Gardener alloy block, a wide-angle cylinder head, Cosworth pistons, and an Arrow Precision billet crankshaft. The engine is equipped with polished valve covers, wet-sump lubrication, and an aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan. Service performed in preparation for the sale is said to have involved tuning the triple Weber carburetors and replacing the battery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A differential oil cooler is fitted at the rear, and a custom-fabricated dual exhaust system has been installed.
The FIA Technical Passport paperwork was issued in 2012.
