Hi, nice car, but strange that this early car would have the 4.2L style center console treatment instead of the aluminium panels normally found in all but the very last 3.8's. Also the shifter stick seems strangely short and knob must be a special thing to someone, but what is it really?
(I would like to know more)

Auction description:
French registration
Chassis # 876327
Engine No. R 3118-9
- Rare version "flat floor"
- Beautifully restored, well preserved
- The purity of the original design
On December 7, 1961, a few months after the unveiling of the model at the Geneva Show and the enthusiastic reaction from around the world, this example left the factory in Coventry to be exported to the United States. Two weeks later, on December 21, the car was delivered in New York, on Park Avenue in the showroom of Max Hoffman, the famous importer of the great European brands. This E-Type Series 1 was then in an "Opalescent Gunmetal" (metallic dark grey) colour, with red leather interior.
When its current owner acquired the car, on July 25th, 1990, in California, the car was black. The car was then shipped out to France, and Cecil Cars was given the job of restoring the car. It was repainted in "Old English White", and the red upholstery was retained. The restoration work lasted for almost a year, after which the car was registered on June 16, 1991.
Since then, the car has been regularly maintained by different well-known workshops such as Cecil Cars, Ares, Classic Garage and Team 4 Racing. Various mechanical components or worn out parts have been replaced, as has been the exhaust (replaced by a stainless steel one), the fuel tank, the fuel pump and the harness. An additional electric fan has been installed. The hood is also new and the rims and tires have only a few kilometers. The restoration has withstood remarkably well the passage of time, and the body is impeccable, as is the red leather upholstery and the carpets in the same color. Equipped with its original engine, the car has been stored in a ventilated, dry, garage. It comes with an extensive file of invoices and a Heritage Certificate issued by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust.
A test drive showed us that the car worked perfectly. One must remember that this Series 1 version, with its six-cylinder 3.8-liter engine and its flat floor, is among the most desirable of all Jaguar E Types. With its incomparable purity of line and in this beautiful state, it is even more desirable.
Estimation 100 000 - 150 000 €

Restoration in progress by E-Type UK :

Summary of Restoration Project
Nice, South of France with an E-type, is there anything better out there? This restoration is to bring this E-type back to its former 1961 glory. Currently finished in cream as opposed to its original Opalescent Gunmetal Grey, this E-type will be finished with original gearbox and to rebuilt to be true to the car built in December 1961.
Restoration work on this 1961 3.8 OTS E-type begun as we started by stripping the car back to a bare shell. Leaving the factory on the 7th December 1961 and dispatched to New York, USA on the 21st December; makes this 1961 E-type an early example with a number of early defining features such as flat floors, aluminium dashboard and visible bonnet louvre outlines. With a Chassis number of 876327, this E-type was originally finished in Opalescent Gunmetal with Oxblood Red Interior and Black Hood. At some point, it was resprayed in white before it made its way to our customer in the South of France who has commissioned the restoration back to original specification. We will be stripping the E-type down to a bare shell and taking this early 61 E-type back to bare metal. Once back to bare metal we will undertake all necessary amends to bring ensure this original Opalescent Gunmetal shines and shimmers once again in the French sunshine. During the removal of the parts we will be rebuilding and recommissioning all parts for this build which will include a full rebuild and refitting of the original MOSS Jaguar gearbox that is currently with this matching numbers E-type. We look forward to restoring this E-type to its factory specifications and creating a flawless car that can be appreciated and admired for generations to come, stay tuned for more updates as we continue the build.

Jaguar World, March 2019 - this car featured in article from page 58 on. Said to have come back from the USA in 1990 "to a new home in Nice, France". Photos appear to show it now in presumably the original dark grey.
