This 1961 Jaguar XKE is a left-hand-drive Series I roadster that was manufactured on October 23, 1961, and was reportedly sold new in California. It subsequently spent time in South Carolina before it was acquired by the seller in 2013. The car is finished in bronze with a tan soft top over Biscuit leather upholstery, and power comes from a numbers-matching 3.8L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include welded hood louvers, flat floors, a color-matched hardtop, an AM radio, and a Falcon stainless steel exhaust system. Service performed in 2021 reportedly included a rebuild of the clutch slave cylinder, a brake fluid flush, and the addition of fresh transmission fluid. This XKE is now offered in Canada with an operator’s handbook, a tool roll, JCNA Concours judging sheets, and Ontario registration in the name of the seller’s company.
The car is finished in bronze and features split bumpers with overriders, welded hood louvers, and glass headlight covers. A color-matched hardtop is fitted and reportedly has not been removed under the seller’s ownership. A tan soft top is said to have been installed under previous ownership.
The chrome 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared spinners and are mounted with Dunlop SP Sport Radial tires. A matching spare wheel and tire are stored under the trunk floor along with a tool roll and jack. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard rotors at the rear. Replacement fuel lines were installed under the seller’s ownership, the brake master cylinder was rebuilt, and a brake fluid flush was performed in 2021.
The cabin features low-back seats trimmed in Biscuit leather upholstery with matching door panels, sills, console sides, and carpets. Features include textured aluminum trim on the dashboard and center console as well as an AM radio.
The three-spoke steering wheel features exposed aluminum on the inner rim and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. The five-digit odometer shows 37k miles, approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU side-draft carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower. Service performed under the seller’s ownership included the installation of new spark plugs and wires, a battery, and a rebuild of the radiator.
Cylinder head stamping R1926–9 matches the engine block stamping and chassis tag, as well as the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. A rebuild of the clutch slave cylinder was performed along with the addition of fresh transmission fluid in 2021. A Falcon stainless steel exhaust system is fitted.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates. Many awards won by the car and Jaguar Clubs of North America Concours judging sheets come with the car.
