Ebay item 7/16/09
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-1961-Jaguar-Flat-Floor-E-type-Roadster_W0Q ...
Current bid $19,161.61 reserve not met, 5 bids 9 days left in auction. Buy it now price $42,500.

Sellers description:
This is an early flat floor E-type. The body is in super nice condition. The car was painted sometime in the 80's and it still shows well. The original floors and sills are still in the car and there is no rust on them. Where the bonnet hinges is nice and dry. The car has a newer roadster top. The car runs well and runs cool. The oil pressure is around 40 pounds. The car can be used right now or driven home. Currently the car has a 4.2 E-type engine and gearbox in the car as we speak. I do have the original 3.8 engine and gearbox that was installed in the car new. So it is a matching number car. The 3.8 engine and gearbox will need rebuilding, but at least you can use the car while this is being done. If you do this you will end up with an extra E-type engine and gearbox. The car is the 779th car built. The numbers are as follows: original engine # R2144-9, gearbox # is EB1280JS, body # is R1992. The 4.2 engine that is in the car has the number 7E17180-9 with the build date on the block of March 22, 1968. There is no jack and no tools with the car. It is also missing the radio console. Other than that the car is pretty much complete.

This is nearly the most desirable variant of the E-Type, it is a very early Flat Floor Series 1 3.8 Roadster, Left Hand Drive. The car was sold new to the USA. The Heritage Certificate states Chassis 875779 was the 779th Car built on the 13th October 1961 as a Genuine 3.8 LHD Roadster finished in Cream with Red Interior. It was despatched on the 25th October 1961 to Jaguar Cars in New York and its first owner was a Mr. H. E Donais of Easthampton, Massachusetts, USA.
Offered here is one of those rare "Flat Floor" E-type roadsters, which was originally registered in the USA but was repatriated to the UK in 2008. This is a very early car, which is accompanied by a comprehensive history file, including the original Bill of Sale for $5670 US and a photograph of the first owner, sitting in his new car.

Finished in Wedgewood or Pastel blue with black leather interior, the car is incredibly sound with original floors and no sign of corrosion in the bonnet, sills or body. The car was rebuilt some time around 1985 and is currently equipped with a fully balanced 4.2 engine from a 1967 car and a 4 speed, all syncromesh gearbox, but the original 3.8 block, Moss gearbox and bell housing come with the car. These are supplied if a new owner wanted to get the car back to a 3.8. numbers matching car.

Since arriving in the UK the car has undergone full recommissioning, which has included a full mechanical overhaul, new chrome wire wheels, new stainless steel exhaust, new carpet set etc. The car now drives faultlessly and the car has been allocated a special, pre 61 UK registration number. The car has an MOT until Fab 2013 and is ready to drive anywhere.

This is an important E-type and offers a future owner the opportunity to bring it back to original, when it would be worth considerably more than the asking price. With E-Type prices breaking the £150k barrier for restored cars, this represents you roast opportunity to buy a correct early car in a great condition for a reasonable price. We do not expect to have this in stock very long!

An engine photo of 875779 uploaded 16 July 2009 shows a 4.2 litre engine in lieu of the original 3.8. Also, a 31 May 2012 comment for 1E12666 states that it then had a non-original 3.8 litre engine which would be swapped with the 4.2 litre engine in 875779. Did that happen?

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
