ABOUT THIS VEHICLE

The E-Type presented here is an early "flat- floor" example, with welded louvers in the hood, but without the exposed hood latches of the first cars. It was originally delivered to marque distributer Charles Hornburg in Los Angeles and is accompanied by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

This roadster received a recent restoration and is described as well sorted. The undercarriage is powder coated, and the engine bay is impressive, with a slightly later 1962 or 1963 rebuilt motor appropriately polished. The E-Type was rewired and has a correct Lucas battery. An aluminum radiator is fitted, though painted black to match the original. This E-Type is fitted with Dunlop high-performance period tires on chrome wire wheels with stainless steel spokes.

The paint and chrome are described as stunning, and the car is finished in striking Indigo Blue. The interior is beautifully upholstered in blue-gray leather, with a gray top, and gray boot. The XKE is fitted with blue carpets and rubber floor mats, and has a period-correct radio.

This Jaguar is accompanied by an owner's manual, dealer warranty cards, a period spare parts catalogue, service manual, and complete tool kit.

For the British sports car enthusiast or collector looking to add this all-important benchmark of design to the stable, this recently restored E-Type is sure to impress.

The one glaring issue with this car is that the ID plate has been restamped. If a heritage certificate and the original ID plate had been available at the time of the auction and the cars numbers could have been verified as original (other than the stated full sycro gearbox) I suspect the auction price would have been a lot higher.

California

July 31-August 2, 2014

1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster

Lot No. 3090

To be offered on Saturday, August 2, 2014

Estimate: $200,000 - $220,000

SOLD: $129,250

This stunning 1961 Jaguar XKE 3.8 Series I OTS offered is a rare early example with flat floors and welded bonnet louvers. A comprehensive restoration has recently been completed to show standards and the car presents extremely well. An unusual, but extremely elegant color combination of Indigo Blue with a Gray leather interior and gray top was selected.

During the restoration process, the vehicle was completely disassembled and repaired where necessary. The body was re-painted, wet sanded, and then buffed to perfection. Many new parts were installed on the car at this time including items such as the exhaust system, hydraulic system, cooling system, wire wheels, tires, windshield, interior, top and new rubber seals. All brightwork was redone as needed, all mechanical systems examined and repaired, all instruments were rebuilt, and every electrical system was fixed or replaced.

An owner in Palm Springs California originally purchased this E-Type new and accessories such as the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, factory toolkit, and owner's manual are included in the sale. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a unique, early E-Type Roadster that is ready for many years of enjoyment.
