I have owned this car since 8-24-1995 and I welcome information concerning it's history. I call the "cat": "MY KID IN COLLEGE", cause my restorer called often and said send money---------does that sound like your kid in college?

"My kid in college", car #875206 was presented at and enjoyed the 2009 JCNA Challenge Championship in San Antonio, TX. Took third place in our driven division, enjoyed the rally, but missed the salom-----next time. Highlite was meeting the owner of 875246 and seeing that car, only other outside bonnet latch "E" present.

Horseless Carriage called; "MY KID" is headed home. Thanks to Dan Mooney & Co., Austin, Texas for the mechanical upgrades to 875206: new tranny, radiator, et.al., rebuilt carbs & linkage, new break system, distributor, torsion / sway and rebuilt steering rack, speedo, tack and clock.

On my recent visit to Classic Jaguar for final inspection, road test and settlement one benefit of the project kinda "BLEW ME AWAY": quietness of the car through the gears----no noise!! Also, squeeky breaks---gone.

The Brits at Classic Jaguar, Austin, Texas make an honest effort at Southern Hospitality. They make a bigger and more successful effort at automobile reconstruction and enhancement. I'm satisfied and can heartly recommend CLASSIC JAGUAR, AUTSTIN, TEXAS.

What a shame to devalue what looks like a reasonably original and early car by putting a 5 speed gearbox in it.
Original boxes are very nice to use if properly rebuilt.

I have some really old photos of the car when I had it in the '80's. Car was originally sold to an egg company & delivered to Vegas. Owner lived in Fulton Alabama. I live in Chattanooga and could talk to the current owner if they want.

JCNA CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP, E-TYPE 50TH ANNIVERSARY, JULY 2011.

Third time was a charm ! Braselton, Ga, then San Antonio, Tx. and, now, Dublin, Ohio July 2011. 875206 finished FIRST in class in slalom, 5th over-all in rally and won the PHANTOM " CLOSEST TO " award at concours. Manufactured Wednesday 7-12-1961, 875206 was the XKE present made closes to the Saturday 7-9-2011 concours date.

The highlite occurred Saturday morning when Drs. Mike Mueller and Tom Haddock, author, viewed 875206 on the show field and provided their expert commentary on this early E. Both men had presented at the Friday seminar with their individual, unique and knowledgable presentations about the early E's; usually considered the first 500 or so XKE's made with 365 or so manufactured for US consumption. 875206 was the 205th XKE made, shipped through New York and titled out of the Birmingham, Al. dealer to their south Alabama customer. Now, 50 years later, what will be 'the rest of the story' ?

    SUNDAY -- APRIL 14, 2013 -- SPRING SLALOM.

My JCNA-NORTH GEORGIA club sponcered first 'sanctioned' slalom of 2013. About 8 classes presented. My Jag is class D and we had six perfect runs---no cone 'bodies' strewn along the course. Six runs because of a clock malfunction-------best time; 48+ seconds.

"MY KID" performed beautifully; tight stearing, strong breaks and more engine than I care to explore at full output.

Next up: CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP, RICHMOND, VIRIGINA

It is very rare to find an original, unmolested XKE, more so, it is even harder to find a 1961 XKE convertible outside bonnet latch car. It is number 206 in the early E-type production history and it was delivered on August 24th, 1961 to Jaguar Cars of New York and then was sold to an egg company & delivered to the owner's home in Fulton, Alabama. This great example is matching numbers which is documented by the Heritage Certificate that accompanies it. It has remained its original color combination since birth. It has good history and has been well maintained, and underwent a restoration in 2010 by Jaguar professionals. It is currently undergoing a full service, paying attention to all necessary items to make it a dependable driver, and bringing it back to its stock condition. This beauty comes complete with the factory owner's manual, and books. This highly collectable 1961 E-type OTS OBL is for the discerning Jaguar Collector and enthusiast.

This Jaguar has attended the following shows:

JCNA Challenge Championship - Several times, and has placed in the top 3 National event at Chateau Élan in Georgia And other local shows

    History

The Series 1 was introduced, initially for export only, in March 1961. The domestic market launch came four months later in July 1961. The cars at this time used the triple SU carbureted 3.8 liter 6-cylinder Jaguar XK6 engine from the XK150S. The first 300 cars built had flat floors and external hood (bonnet) latches. These cars are rare and more valuable. The outside bonnet latch is the most sought after of all the Series I E types. Only 500 external bonnet latch cars were made, of those, 385 were left-hand drive roadsters, 20 left hand drive coupes, 91 right hand drive roadsters, and 4 right-hand drive coupes. After that, the floors were dished to provide more leg room and the twin hood latches moved to inside the car. The 3.8 liter engine was increased to 4.2 liters in October 1964. This is a California car that is complete and has the features that so many collectors look for, which are: flat floor, welded louvers, outside bonnet latches, low number production car, and matching numbers.

Car to be at auction 3/15

    www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1961-jaguar-e-type-series-i-3-8-litre-roadster-4/

    Auction description:

    1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Litre Roadster

    Lot 0 [not yet assigned]

    Amelia Island 2015

    Estimate: $350,000 - $450,000

    Chassis: 875206

    Lot 46

According to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, this early-production, original left-hand-drive E-Type was built on July 12, 1961, and delivered via Jaguar Cars New York on August 24, 1961, to the Scotch CBG Co., an egg producer located in Fulton, Alabama. The E-Type eventually passed through the ownership of two subsequent enthusiasts in Florida and Georgia respectively, and then to Charles E. Cole of Carrollton, Georgia, acquired it in August 1995. Mr. Cole proved to be an enthusiastic long-term owner and displayed the E-Type at a number of JCNA concours and slalom events during his tenure, eventually commissioning a full restoration completed in 2010. The current owner first saw this early E-Type during the 1990s at a JCNA event and finally acquired it in 2013. A concours-quality restoration was completed during 2014 by the Jaguar marque specialists at Oceanside, California's Classic Showcase.

Impressively, the E-Type retains its original 1961-dated glass headlamp covers with their original "Triplex" logos that remain in very good condition with a light age-appropriate patina. At its only show outing since restoration, this outstanding E-Type earned 99.930 points at the Inland Empire Jaguar Club's September 2014 Jagstravaganza. Offered complete with a digital restoration file, owner's manual, ownership history, and a JDHT Certificate listing original serial numbers, this early-production 1961 external-bonnet-latch E-Type Roadster marks an outstanding choice on all counts, standing ready for continued showing or pure, top-down enjoyment.

WOW !!!!!!! Georgia carpet magnate is turning in his grave------I'm just spinning.

Mr Wheeler passed and MaMa said, "SELL THE CARS"!. Kruse auction sold 300+ cars weekend of 8-24-1995 and Jaguar XKE #875206 was one. The gavel fell & she was mine. Offered as a 1962, she turned out to be a very early and original 1961. During almost 20 years of ownership there are too many stories, but one constant------WONDERFUL PEOPLE.

I sold 875206 and was soon pleased to learn she was in the hands of Mr. Tom Krefetz, accomplished car-man and owner of Classic Showcase, Oceanside, Ca. Tom prepared the car for the concours showing in championship class before deciding to sell this past March 2015 through Gooding & Co. at Amelia Island.

Interestingly, it was Amelia Island, "FIELD OF DREAMS" weekend of 3-10-2001 where I first showed 875206 to an enthusiastic crowd. How fitting the gavel fall this time at Amelia Island on this BEAUTIFUL, SENIOR, SOUTHERN CAT.

Congratulations to buyer and seller. Eddie
