Bonhams auction, Nurburgring 8/10/2002, lot #105. Sports Car Market report reads:

"The "flat-floors," so named because of their absence of foot wells, are close to the top of the E-type hierarchy, even if less comfortable than the "bent-floor" models that followed. Fair price."

Coys Germany Auction Aug 11 2007:
1961 Jaguar E Type 'Flat Floor' Roadster
Registration Number: EU registered Chassis Number: 875189

On its Geneva Show debut in March 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation, with all the promise of its looks confirmed by a 150mph top speed and 0-60 and 0-l00mph in 6.9 and 16.2 seconds respectively; fast indeed, and combined with superb road holding and remarkable docility. What is not often known however is that on the day before, a Jaguar executive left Browns Lane at seven o'clock in the evening and drove through the night to get there. With 20 minutes to spare, a team of Jaguar mechanics descended on the car cleaning and polishing and with the engine still pinking, then the curtain drew back.

In October 1964 it was superseded by the 4.2 litre model; apart from the capacity increase from 3,781cc to 4,235cc and improved torque but the same power, it boasted a new all synchromesh gearbox, improved brake servo and seats, an alternator and the dashboard was now leather faced rather than aluminium dashboard.

This example of Jaguar's legendary E Type is a Series 1 3.8 litre original left-hand drive roadster which, with this specification and the fact that it is an early flat floor model with external bonnet locks, makes it one of the most sought after E Type models in the current market. The car was restored between 1990 and 1997 in Denmark with no expense spared and to an extremely high degree; the Coys German agent describes it as one of the best he has ever driven. It is thought to be 100% accident damage free and is presented in Anthracite Grey with a contrasting red leather interior.

After its restoration finished in 1997, this Jaguar was driven lightly until 2002 after which it was laid up in safe conditions. It has recently been made road ready with an engine refresh. In addition to the standard specification the car comes with chrome wire wheels and a MotoLita steering wheel. With matching engine and gearbox numbers this superb example comes complete with Heritage Certificate and Danish registration documents. As Briggs Cunningham famously said, "the E Type was a giant step forward, offering amazing racing car performance but with relative sophistication and, above all, it was clothed in a sensational body of timeless beauty."

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
