Auction description:
Auction Date: 22 October 2011
Lot 324 - 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixedhead Coupé
Registration: ADU 44B
Chassis Number: 861706
Engine Number: RA7097-9
Odometer reading: 49,000
Estimate: £25,000-£30,000
Hammer: Sold
Plus Commission: £32,480

This 3.8 Series I E-Type has been lovingly owned by the current vendor since 1979; the previous owner was Bill Haines of Jaguar Cars. First registered in the UK on 24th June, 1964, this coupé has recently undergone some restoration work, together with a full engine rebuild costing approximately £10,000 and has travelled less than 200 miles since. Finished in blue with contrasting red leather trim, this iconic sports car is sadly being sold due to ill health of the vendor. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a full years' MoT test certificate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
