    Auction description:
Fine Motor Cars & The Jaguar Legend, Chiswick House
    Saturday 3rd July 2004
    Lot 1167 1962 Jaguar E Type S1 3.8 Litre Fixedhead Coupe
    Registration no: German Registered
    Chassis no: 861042
    Estimate: £18,000-23,000
Finished in white with a black interior, this right hand drive example is currently German registered having been resident there since 1996 and is accompanied by a Fahrzeugbrief and Heritage Certificate. It was the subject of restoration between 1985 - 87 having spent the early 1980s in storage. This included replacement of panels where necessary, a complete retrim and the fitment of new discs and tyres. Whilst many E Types are available to collectors today, the car offered here has an interesting provenance in that it was supplied to the wife of Jaguar's Chief Engineer, Bill Heynes, in December 1962 when it was painted opalescent golden sand with tan interior. In 1973 extensive mechanical work was undertaken including the alteration of the compression ratio to 8-1 and fitment of the much improved all synchromesh gearbox. More recently in 2002 a new set of wire wheels were fitted and the car has seen use in gentle competition where it has proved very reliable and competitive. An original matching numbers car ready to be enjoyed.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
