Built for Le Mans in 1962 it is one of eight E-Types that raced at Le Mans and one of three that raced in the 1962 event. A private entry by Charles & Coundley, the motor failed after three hours. The car was sold after the race and did not turn up until the late 1880's in Guernsey. It was restored by Nigel Dawes and was finished in 1999.

Description:
1962 Jaguar E-Type Fixed-Head Coupe
Chassis Number: 860458
The 1962 Le Mans semi lightweight E-Type Driven by Maurice Charles & John Coundley.
There were only eight E-Types that raced at Le Mans in the 1960's and only three that raced in the 1962 endurance event. This car was driven by Maurice Charles and John Coundley (car #8). The car was fitted with every possible racing option for Le Mans. After the race the car was sold in late 1962 and was not discovered until mid 1990's in the Channel Islands. The car was quickly purchased and restored by Jaguar expert, Nigel Dawes and it was finished in 1999. The car was then entered in the 1999 Royal & Sun Alliance Classic Cavalcade Tour.

Addendum to '09 comment above:
Well over 100,000 pound sterling was spent on the restoration. The car was then entered in the 1999 Royal & Sun Alliance Classic Cavalcade Tour. The car came to the USA in early 2001 and is now owned by the Blackhawk Collection.
