JD Classics sold this car in 2005. I bought it in Rye Sussex in 1974 having exchanged it with a part time dealer for a mustard yellow Aston Martin DB5 Vantage. I was in fact effectively the second owner, the first having been the MD of an electrical engineering firm in London. He had the car extensively rustproofed and it was in fact in remarkable condition for its age. It joined my other E Type 850027 reg 1 XKE (originally 200 MFC but I bought the special number from a customer who had it on his MkX). I actually ran it as my every day car for almost 3 years and then sold it to the Bovet -White family in Sussex. It was reported to me that the car had left the factory with competition mods. This is not so!. In 1976 I fitted the D Type camshafts from 850027 to the car in order to compete in the Brighton speed trials of that year and although the Bovet-Whites had a lot of fun club racing it I am certain that I carried out the first competition in it. As an aside my wife acted as navigator to me on an occasion when we entered the "Marsh mists" rally which lasted if I remember about 20 hours or so. Much to the chagin of the assembled rally drivers with their souped up saloons we won - with an E Type!.

Car to be at Coy's auction 1/10
    www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php

    Auction description:
    1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Litre Fixedhead Coupe
    Lot 328
    Registration Number: 600 FBP
    Chassis Number: 860186
Built in 1962, this particular example looks stunning in opalescent silver and sitting on chrome wire wheels. The original owners of 860186 were founder members of the Jaguar Drivers Club who ordered the car new from Jaguar with performance upgrades including D-Type camshafts and a big valve cylinder head. With performance enhancements fitted from new this car saw plenty of action on the track in its earlier years with previous owners including RAF test pilot Julian Soddy who raced the vehicle at the Brighton speed trials in 1976 and Derek Bovet-White who raced the car regularly at Silverstone and various other circuits.

Totally restored 8 years ago it is now described by the vendor as being in top concours condition. With the work carried out a few years ago all components have bedded in nicely with all aspects of the car being described as excellent, as befits a car which has been meticulously maintained since the restoration was completed. During the restoration a full synchro mesh gearbox was fitted, making the driving experience even more enjoyable.

This is a superb example with the distinction of being the winner of various awards and feature of many Jaguar publications over the last three decades, and is supplied with a V5 document, current MoT certificate and full photographic restoration documentation.

    Estimate: £50000 - £60000

The first owner was my father Frederic John Whyte. The car was a standard e type without factory modifications. My parents lived in Kent but had a house in Hastings and it was sold locally there in the early 1970s.
The rust proofing was deliberate as their garage in Kent was very damp.

This car belonged to my friend John Whytes father and it was nearly new when I was given the enormous privilege of driving it . When he came to sell I had the oportunity to buy but prudence got in the way! The experience has resulted my purchase of chassis no 861536 which is also a 3.8FHC. It has not disapointed.
