This car was the subject of a letter from the then owner, Chris Tye, of Wells, Somerset to the Jaguar Driver magazine October 1993. He stated that the car was despatched to Henlys London 24th Sept. 1961. The first owner was Col. Hoare who used it in the UK and South Africa for 10 years, eventually selling it to a farmer in Natal. The car was found lying derelict near Johannesburg and bought by Brian Hubbert in 1989. Mr Tye purchased the car in the UK in 1993. Original paint colour was opalescent dark green.
A colour photo of the car was reproduced in the J.D magazine.

This car is listed in the Jaguar Drivers Club E Type Register 2001 edition as being owned by G Missetzis

Further to the above the Jaguar Driver magazine published a letter in its April 1994 issue from "Lofty" ENGLAND of Jaguar who cast doubt on what Mr Tye had said about the car's history.
He wrote"860006-the car he had never went to South Africa....there is no doubt that the car referred to was never owned by Col. Hoare"
HISTORIANS BEWARE!!!

According to an article on classicdriver currently in possession of Guy Berryman from Coldplay:
Section in English:
What's the story with this E-type?
This car is number six off the production line. It was originally owned by Colonel Ronnie Hoare, the legendary UK Ferrari importer, and he actually took it to one of his dealerships so they could see what Ferrari was up against on the track. They disassembled it, put it back together, and then sold it to Mike Hailwood. It's going to be restored eventually, but very sympathetically. The interior alone can tell a few stories, I'm sure...
